The Germans fought with the Roman legions on many occasions. A German cohort was particularly influential in 70AD, fighting with distinction alongside Titus' Roman legions.

This is true. Germany's greatest enemy during the war was Hitler himself, a fact that Rommel and other German patriots realized only too late. But this does not change the fact that the Germans were the best of the best and were only defeated with the combined might of two superpowers.

why german isn't a romance language? Because tribal germans kicked the shit out of the romans. Then in the end, took all of roman territory in the west.

There is some truth to that, but it is largely a myth. Yes, the Nazis studied and experimented with meth and other enhancers (as did every nation involved with the war). But the fact remains: these drugs (like all drugs) degrade, not enhance, a soldiers performance. I remember encountering insurgents in Fallujah who were jacked on similar cocktails: yes, they did not feel the pain and took multiple shots to neutralize but, no, they did not perform better or make better decisions in combat. In fact the opposite was true.

Germans? Meh. Everyone knows the Finns during the Winter War were the most badass fighting force ever to walk this Earth tounge

The tiny country singlehandedly grinded the Soviet war machine to a halt in a brutal defensive war.

The result of the Winter War was probably the reason Hitler decided that attacking Russia would be easy. Boy was he wrong.

They had the top women snipers in the world and this guy:

Simo Hayha. Simo Häyhä, also known as “The White Death” is widely regarded as the most skilled and successful sniper there ever was, with over 500 kills to his name. He helped defend Finland from the Soviets during World War II

German soldiers were on board lock stock and barrel with expanding out from Germany not just to take over other people's lands /countries but to also kill not only foreign Soldiers but all Civilians who got in their way, and to do that killing with NO remorse.

The murdering of Civilians on the Eastern Font during the invasion of first Eastern Europe and then Ukraine and Russia itself was unparalleled in modern times, and the German Soldiers had no problem with that. When you look at what the Germans did to everyday Russians it is amazing that Russian soldiers refrained from engaging in a brutal "payback" revenge killing spree once they finally entered Germany proper.

I am 1/2 German, but there is something in the German psychic that CRAVES being part of a large organized group that kills others in a very organized manner. It is still there to this day in fact (imo), which is why Margaret Thatcher was very vocal that she was NOT in favor of German Reunification in the event that East Germany would collapse.

Also, try the Athenians, Spartans and Macedonians who fought and won battles vastly outnumbered. Oh yeah, these guys won that's why Greek was the 1st lingua franca. German was never a lingua franca (Latin and English being the other 2) and these guys lost. Stone cold losers really.

Germany was decimated by the allies and soviets.
The Soviets sent 3 million German war prisoners to Siberia that never returned. Worked(or froze) to death.
The German women(and girls) were systematically raped and beaten.

Some of them were excellent soldiers, but for the most part the Germans had average soldiers with an excellent leadership.

Also having a huge industrial base really helped, as invading unprepared weaker countries.

[link to michalw.narod.ru]

For some reason the "industrial" argument is often used to explain why the South lost the U.S. Civil War, but the same argument is often absent as to why explaining the Germans defeating a bunch of smaller and much poorer countries.

Re: The German Soldier of WWII: history's most formidable fighting force
The Whermacht was the greatest fighting force the world had ever seen. The German war doctrine, to this day, is still adopted by many of the world's militaries. They were far ahead of their time, using methods never before implemented, equipped with technology never before experienced on the scale that would be the battlegrounds of World War 2. There was reason to be overconfident, no one could stop them, and took the combined force of three world powers to bring them to a kneel, even then the German people would not surrender, even at the brink of defeat. Many proud and brave men fought, as well as died in those times, but a remnant always lives on. The German armies were honorable, and courageous soldiers. May their legacy live on forever. Our honor is loyalty. God with us. And just for the record, the German high command, as well as the average everyday civilian never wanted a war with America. It was the British that can be thanked for that!

The best soldier of WWII was a native Siberian sniper who served in the Red Army.

He probably killed over 1 000 Axis troops, but officially he was credited with around 450 confirmed kills (sorry, I no longer remember the precise number).

One Man Army, a single guy killing over 1 000 with a rifle.

Only you forgot to mention that the Maginot Line did not cover the border with Belgium, and the Germans got really lucky bypassing it in the Ardennes.

But I partially agree, the German victory against France was the only very impressive Wehrmacht accomplishment of the Second World War.

One could also make arguments in favor of the German military being impressive for its conquests of Norway and Crete, due to these being logistically difficult. By the way, conquest of Norway was apparently Hitler's idea, and his generals were mostly against it. I guess he was not entirely a bad military strategist.
