And then PG&E decides you’re going on lockdown. No water, no comms, no car. Nothing to do but wait as the fire comes down the canyon.

If your electric vehicle is struck by lightning, is it totaled?

Many other questions need answering.

Most modern electric cars have more range than their gas counterparts. Electricity is easier to access than gas. When the power is out gas stations can’t pump gas either. During times of disaster gas stations often have long lines or run out completely. With an electric car just drive out of the affected area.

Tesla has stated lightening strikes will not affect the vehicle. Although charging during a lightning storm is not recommend due to the vehicle then being earthed. I’ve seen some gas vehicles struck by lightning that were totaled. That’s what insurance is for.
