68th anniversary of the disappearence and cover-up of two pilots /mia/UFO/Lake Superior
*RERUNNING for the 70th anniversary, an ole fasioned GLP type thread and a break from the heavy news of the day...*

As a little kid growing up in the U.P. of Michigan, we were used to seeing unusual things in the sky. Auroras, thunder storms in a blizzard, no light pollution, so vibrant black skys with millions of coments...and in the 1950s, intense UFO activity. So common was the latter that the farmer's wife up the road routinely called our Sheriff and had him send a squad car up to make a UFO landing in her nice pasture leave as it spoiled the chickens from laying eggs.

We had a well and an outhouse, some Native Indians didnt even have electricity, even though we were inside the city limits. November is COLD and it is dark by 4;30. On the 23 in 1953, my sister and I took the lantern to go out after supper, so around six p.m. I was 12, she was 8, two giggling girls laughing about how nice it was that at least the bears were hibernating and the full moon helped light the path. We looked up where the moon should be and saw a huge bunch of lights moving off in the distance from the area of the locks out NW. We were used to seeing UFOs but this was big and fast.

This is a small town with five little reservations (two were in Canada) We dont need newpapers and what Im telling you is what we knew,.the other facts are readily available as the "Kinross" incident in project Bluebook.

When Kinross AFB was alerted that an UFO was in the air space of the famous Soo locks, they sent an armed jet with two men on board, Pilot Lt. Felix Moncla and Robert Wilson. They went to intercept and they and their plane were seen to "merge" with the football field sized object and they were never seen again. All the local fishermen, all the coast guard searched and NEVER was a legitimate piece of the plane or the bodies recovered.
Superior in those days was so clear you could see down to the sandy bottem even twenty feet till the middle where it was too deep.(12,ooo ft). The AF said it was a RCAF jet, our canadian relatives said not a chance. cover ups abounded and hoaxes. One of the older girls dated a guy from the radar base and they heard that after the vanishing someone heard a garbled brief message from Moncla. We think he and WIlson were sucked up into the large ship and taken away...
Once in a while the family came to look out onto the vast open waters, but their sons have never been found.
Like all who were claimed by Lake Superior, we remember them with wreaths cast upon the waters...if indeed they are there and not somewhere in the sky.

November is bizarre month in the U. P.: the Edmund Fitzgeald annivery is Saturday, and almost Nov, the late october Peshtigo fire, the worst in US history claiming 1200 to 3000 lives, the same day as the big Chicago fire, ours burnt from Escanaba in the Upper Peninsula to Green Bay and all forests and people in between. And yes even Big Foot encounters.
But the saddest was these two young pilots who dissapeared with out a trace.
I should write about an interview with old Pat, the last person to talk to anyone alive on the Fitzgerald as it went thru the Soo locks on that awful night with twenty foot waves and high winds
I love the U.P, and we almost 100% voted for our Trump. Northren lower MI also. God bless that loyal good clerk there who was diligent enough to see too many dem. votes and checked the machine and now we have 40 counties that should recount, and rightly give MI to Trump and Ill add this year to the list of wierd things going on in our state.

With all the stuff going on this deserves another look for the sake of the families of the two pilots.

This is a little early but the storm cycle for this year looks like it will be pretty stormy like it was that year.

Also, it allows people time to plan since gas prices etc are to volotile.
