From the palace of the sea kings in Minos, sir Arthur Evans was shown to have had a huge capacity for visualizations. The architects would say he almost always got it right. Just by looking at a piece of broken stone he could see the whole original structure looked. He has been to Egyptian pharaoh palaces and now palace of the sea kings and the effect overwhelmed him. Reason being Egyptian palaces were made of sun dried bricks which the foundation was all that was left. Only the temples and tombs were built for eternity. At Knossos, he felt within the time walking the walls enlivened with echoes. -cotterell info

Re: Technology of Craftsmanship
One of the most remarkable things was the Minoan hydraulic engineering on the north east Bastion.
The steps were open air and the channel had been cut at the side of each flight to carry away rain water.
That in itself did not seem very extraordinary yeah each flight of steps was quite steep and was at right angles to the next and the problem of the Minoan engineers was to get the rain water around the corners without overflowing onto the landings.
If the water ducts at the side to been flat bottom slopes the rainwater would’ve rushed down them at such velocity that inevitably it would’ve been overflowing at the first corner. The trick was to slow down and speed and this was done by making the bottom of the water channels in a series of parabolic curves. The curves almost exactly agree with the natural parable is that the water falling down a slope at such an angle would make therefore the water reach the bottom of each flight at about half the speed it would’ve reached had to pour down the slope in a straight line instead of in a series of jumps nothing in the whole building give such an impression of the result of long generations of intelligent experience on the part of the Minoan engineers as a pair about curves of the channels

A series of catch pits collected the sediment on its downward course so that when the water reach the bottom of the steps it was still pure and fit for washing purposes

Every year, for centuries in Nepal, members of the Gurung ethnic group have climbed down the sides of cliffs amid swarms of bees—putting their lives on the line—to collect wild honey. It is not just any honey, of not just any bee: Nepal's Apis dorsata laboriosa is the largest honeybee in the world, and in the Himalayan hills, its nectar boasts hallucinogenic properties. Those effects are documented from 401 BC—when Greek soldiers, traveling through modern day Turkey near the Black Sea, indulged in a similar honey and were debilitated with intoxication—to today. I'd heard some fascinating but vague stories about this custom, and I'd seen amazing photos and videos of past hunts. Intrigued by this ancient culture and the mysterious psychedelic effects of the honey, I joined the Gurung in their excursion last spring.

What do the bees experience is the question as I pondered the applications of possibilities. Broader view of cultures and diets capacities into limitation.

One of the oldest plants on earth is chaparral. The creosote bush has a stand in the Mojave Desert for over 11,000 years. Propolis comes from bees and many are contaminated from the synthetic creosote of wood tar that has infected the bee population.
The resin on the plant protects from insects. This plant was the first to grow back after the 1962 nuclear bomb tests. A major helper with staph infection issues as well as gut issues.
The king clone in the desert is 11,700 years old. The top above ground has died yet the clones spring up from the underground expansion forming a ring.

It's just, Alyssa Chang has me all worked up.
That girl has no boundaries.
She takes all of my stuff and every day she has a new scented candle.
One of which that smelled like bacon.
I think she's trying to gaslight me.
Yeah, bullies'll do that.
Trust me, I pretty much have a PhD on the subject.
She makes me long for the days when I could toss a monster into the Malivore pit.
Well, I know this might not sound like the most action-packed advice, but, um maybe just try talking to her.
Bullies hate being confronted.
I guess I could try that, Dr.
Kirby.
Great.

The university said people who feared they were under the influence of dark magic would bury a nail-filled bottle under their hearth with the intention of the heat from the hearth energizing the nails to break a magic spell.

The jug is now believed to be one of less than a dozen witch bottles discovered in the United States. Archaeologists in Britain have documented nearly 200 witch bottle discoveries.

What do you got? We're dealing with a Qareen.
It's an Arabian monster that whispers insecurities and feeds off discord.
Its superpower is making people angry? Uh, it feeds off the strife, becoming stronger and affecting more and more people until it materializes into our plane.
Right now it's out of phase.
It's invisible and intangible.
I thought the Malivore portal is closed.
I mean, isn't it? I don't know how it got here, but it's definitely real.
I saw it.
You said it's invisible.
Not to fairies.

Or maybe my research was fine, but God forbid you use your brain instead of punching every problem.
Oh, crap.
I'm infected.
LIZZIE: Join the club.
Maybe the only one that'll have you.
Sorry.
Monster.
Why am I being affected now? I wasn't before.
Oh.
Okay.
I might have a plan.
Hey.
What happened back there, what everyone said, it wasn't cool.
And we really need your help to stop the Qareen.
Why? I'm useless, like Hope said.
That's because fairies run on belief.
I did some research, and the more people that believe in you, the stronger your powers.
No one believes in me.
I do.
You saw the Qareen first.
You were unaffected by its powers, and when I was hanging out with you, the Qareen couldn't infect me.
I'm 100% behind you.
And I'm not alone.
STUDENTS (CHANTING): Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Are people calling my name? Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! - Oh.
Wade! Wade! Wade! We gathered everyone we could.
Let loose the fairy.
You got this, Wade.
Just know that everyone believes in you.
(GIRL SCREAMS) (STUDENTS GASPING) STUDENTS: Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! (GRUNTS) Wh-Wha-What's wrong? This isn't giving me any powers.
I don't think anyone really believes in me.
This is why we don't entrust plans to Muppet Babies.
- I'm not sorry.
- I believe.
And I'll prove it.
(SNARLS) What the hell are you doing? Trusting in Wade.
Wait, we can't break the Sandclock.
(GRUNTS) You're weak.
You can't protect yourself, let alone anyone else.
Shut up.
You're weak.
- (BONES CRUNCHING) - (STUDENTS GASP) - Landon! - Hope, stay calm.
(EXHALES) I got this, Hope.
Landon made sure of it.
- (STUDENTS CHEERING) - Oh.
Dude's, like, all fairy.
Like, for real.
(GROWLS) STUDENTS: Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! (CHANTING CONTINUES) (ROARING) Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! Wade! - Oh, my gosh! - Wade! (CHEERING) (CRACKING) ALARIC: Lizzie was rushed to the infirmary - with severe burns.
- Now, thankfully, she'll be okay.

“The Satire Of The Trades”

The scribe is merely a child, but he is addressed respectfully.
He is sent to perform official missions, and before he returns he dresses himself in a gown.

I have never seen a sculptor as an official envoy, no that a goldsmith is sent.
I’ve seen a coppersmith at his work, at the mouth of his furnace, his fingers like the claws of a crocodile, and he stinks worse than fish roe.

Every carpenter who wields the adze, and he is wearier then the labor in the field. And his field is the wood, And his hoe the axe.
And there is no end to his craft and he does beyond what his arms are capable of....

And the jeweler is boring carefully into every type of hard stone. He completes the inlay of an eye; his arms are exhausted and he is weary.
He sits at sunset, with his knees and his back cramped.

The potter is under the soil, although he stands among the living.
And he grabs in the mud more than a pig in order to bake his pots.
His clothes are stiff with clay, his loincloth in rags. Breath enters his nose direct from his furnace. He tramples the clay with his feet, and is himself crushed by it.

Extreme heat from the Mount Vesuvius eruption in Italy was so immense it turned one victim's brain into glass, a study has suggested.

The volcano erupted in 79 AD, killing thousands and destroying Roman settlements near modern-day Naples.

The town of Herculaneum was buried by volcanic matter, entombing some of its residents.

A team of researchers has been studying the remains of one victim, unearthed at the town in the 1960s.

A study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine on Thursday , said fragments of a glassy, black material were extracted from the victim's skull.

Researchers behind the study believe the black material is the vitrified remains of the man's brain.

Re: Technology of Craftsmanship
The plant wild carrot has been mentioned by Greek writers at least 500 years before Christ and said even then the domesticated varieties have already been developed.

"Did the domestic carrot come from the wild carrot/weed?"

Well, the carrot was brought over to the Americas when the Europeans came over supposedly. And it is said that the wild carrot that is a huge weed in the Americas now is from the domesticated carrot.

Garden carrots can 'go wild' sometimes in a single generation. In almost every planting of carrots there will be a few atavistic specimens that produces a white, tough, slender little roots that if left in the ground and allowed to seed, the next summer they will be indistinguishable from the wild carrot. Abandoned good carrots never go wild because of the little animals who know a good carrot when they taste it.

Full circle, a woman in Maine planted a wild seed carrot, cultivated them, selected the best roots, and gradually redomesticated them into a new variety of sweet carrots.-stalking herbs

The beast. You're in the school. He's going to find you. You're the one he wants. You have to learn.
Learn what?
Look down. You are on the garden path. Stay on. The beast will kill you. Kill everyone. Step off the path or...."
-The Magicians

[link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)]

A garden path sentence, such as "The old man the boat," is a grammatically correct sentence that starts in such a way that a reader's most likely interpretation will be incorrect; the reader is lured into a parse that turns out to be a dead end or unintended. Garden path sentences are used in psycholinguistics to illustrate the fact that when human beings read, they process language one word at a time. "Garden path" refers to the saying "to be led down the garden path", meaning to be deceived, tricked, or seduced.

Garden path sentences figuratively lead the reader toward a seemingly familiar meaning that is actually not the one intended. They are a special type of sentence that creates a momentary ambiguous interpretation because that it contains a word or phrase that can be interpreted in multiple ways, causing the reader to begin to believe a sentence will mean one thing when in reality it means something else. After reading, the sentence seems ungrammatical and makes almost no sense, requiring reread to fully understand its meaning after careful parsing.

The key to life, death, resurrection

He didn't want to pass on the burden of being a Shannara.
