Jesus also said wait a few hundred years while the canon gets approved by the Apostolic Institution put in place to protect Catholic Faith before you start your religion.

And He said that priest should wear clowns outfit, rape kids and kill lots of people in the name of God.

thats what this also degrades to once the logic of protestantism is defeated
too bad the reformers always reform the wrong things or maybe some of those things would have been fixed

Re: Can Roman Catholics point to scripture where it states that I must pray to Mary?
Simple:

People were having a wedding party, and the host had forgotten to get enough wine. Jesus didn't give a shit about that kind of Earthly problems, but his mom kept buggering him to use his divine powers to conjure up something to drink, and eventually he turned some water into wine, just to shut her the f*ck up.

Ever since, Catholics have used the strategy of asking Jesus mom to "intercede" on their behalf and bugger him with their inane requests until he gives up and gives them what they want.

This story is in the Bible. Look it up.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76682145

there were many people who asked Jesus for help.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78207453

And Jesus helped them if he thought it was appropriate to do so.

The water to wine episode is different, because Jesus only did it because he couldn't say no to his mom. And that's why Catholics have latched on to it.

Dude, this is literally the explanations catholic teachers give on why they ask Mary to "intercede" - because the water to wine incident shows that Jesus will always hear her out no matter what.

Bottom line:

If you feel Jesus will answer your prayer on its own merits, you can ask him directly.

But if you know deep inside your prayer is unworthy of being answered, you must ask Mary to bugger Jesus about it.

It's kind of pathetic IMO, but to each his own.

Re: Can Roman Catholics point to scripture where it states that I must pray to Mary?
There’s nothing that says you must... but also, Catholics don’t pray to Mary, they are asking Mary to pray for us. The most common prayers are the Hail Mary and the Magnificat:

These prayers can be found in the bible:
The greeting of Elizabeth to Mary and
The greeting of the Angel Gabriel to Mary

Hail Mary:

Hail Mary, full of grace
The Lord is with thee
Blessed are you among women
and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus
Holy Mary mother of God
Pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death, Amen

Note the last line is asking Mary to pray for us...
These lines are comprised of the greetings to Mary in the bible here:

Luke 1:26-29 Greeting of Angel Gabriel
Luke 1:39-46 Greeting of Elizabeth

The Magnificat follows the Greeting of Elizabeth in the bible:
Luke I:46-56

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
for he has looked with favor on his humble servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed,
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear Him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the humble.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children for ever.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever.
Amen, Alleluia.

In this canticle that Mary sings, the lines state that “all generations shall call me blessed” which is what people do when they recite the “Hail Mary”. It says that Mary is glorified through God. She reminds us that God is merciful.

The Rosary is comprised of the Apostles Creed, the Hail Mary, and the Our Father

The Our Father is found in scripture: Mathew 6:9 where the disciples ask Jesus how we should pray, it is the prayer that Jesus recommends

So the most common prayers about Mary are all biblical scriptures. The scripture that shows that it is appropriate to address Mary are at the Wedding at Cana, (John 2:1-11) Jesus respects his mother’s wish to perform a miracle giving the bride and groom more wine by changing water into wine even though it is “not yet his time” to reveal himself. This shows that Jesus listens to his mothers wishes as a powerful intercessor for human’s basic needs.

So Catholics are asking Mary to intercede for us to Jesus, not answer the prayers herself.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77879038

Leviticus 26:1
"Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up any image of stone in your land, to bow down unto it: for I am the Lord your God."

why catholics are worshiping idols?

mary is dead, you should not pray to dead people, unless you are a witch
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78207453

It’s not worship, and Mary is not “dead” she is more alive than we are. God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob is “not God not of the dead, but of the living” (Matt. 22:32; see also 22:23-33).

“Sometimes Fundamentalists object to asking our fellow Christians in heaven to pray for us by declaring that God has forbidden contact with the dead in passages such as Deuteronomy 18:10–11. In fact, he has not, because he at times has given it—for example, when he had Moses and Elijah appear with Christ to the disciples on the Mount of Transfiguration (Matt. 17:3). What God has forbidden is the necromantic practice of conjuring up spirits. “There shall not be found among you any one who . . . practices divination, a soothsayer, or an augur, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a medium, or a wizard, or a necromancer. . . . For these nations, which you are about to dispossess, give heed to soothsayers and to diviners; but as for you, the Lord your God has not allowed you so to do. The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brethren—him you shall heed” (Deut. 18:10–15).

God thus indicates that one is not to conjure the dead for purposes of gaining information; one is to look to God’s prophets instead. Thus, one is not to hold a seance. But anyone with an ounce of common sense can discern the vast qualitative difference between holding a seance to have the dead speak through you and a son humbly saying at his mother’s grave, “Mom, please pray to Jesus for me; I’m having a real problem right now.””

What else you got for me that you could just look up yourself instead of perpetuating ignorant nonsense misconceptions?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77879038

As a member of the body of Christ, why would I need ANYONE to intercede for me. I have a personal, intimate relationship with my savior ... apparently you don't have that kind of relationship ...

“Hail, full of grace! The Lord is with you!” -The Angel Gabriel

“Who am I that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For at the moment your greeting reached my ears the infant in my womb leapt for joy!” -Mary’s cousin Elizabeth while filled with the Holy Spirit.

“Do whatever she tells you.” -Jesus

“Behold your mother.” -Jesus

She plays a pretty prominent role in Revelation 12.

“Behold the handmaiden of the Lord. Let it be done to me according to your word.” -Mary to the Angel Gabriel after being told she would conceive the Son of God despite being a virgin.

“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior. For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness and behold, from now on all generations will call me blessed. For The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy reaches from age to age to those who fear him. He has shown might with his arm,
dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart. He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones but lifted up the lowly. The hungry he has filled with good things; the rich he has sent away empty. He has helped Israel his servant,
remembering his mercy, according to his promise to our fathers, to Abraham and to his descendants forever.” -Mary

“Honor your father and mother.” -One of the 10 commandments.

Catholics do not worship or deify Mary. But her submission to the will of God brought our Savior into the world. She is the Mother of God. Those in Heaven are very alive.

"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

mary is dead, and she is not a God. Jesus is the only way, not mary, not catholics, not religion, not idol worshiping. why catholics have an image and statues of "mary"? they are worshiping that image. She is just a human like everyone else.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78207453

She is not dead, she is in heaven, the saints in heaven are alive. The wedding at Cana proves that Jesus listens to his mother. It’s not worship if you don’t consider it worship in your heart. Yes, she is just a human, but no, not like everyone else, she gave birth to Jesus. She said “yes” to God and opened her heart, much like you should. You are closed minded and you have a closed heart. But if you chose to continue to misinterpret scripture, that is your perogative.

She is not the mother of God you Heretic. God existed before Mary. How is the created the mother of the creator. Turn away from the blasphemous rcc

She is not the Mother of God the Father, no. She is the mother of God incarnate. You believe in the Trinity right?
