Their main complain is that they can't use the card to withdraw cash, and it can indeed be a problem.
If you want to go in bakery and buy a baguette for example, it will cost 0,8 - 1€, and most shop don't accept card as payment for small amount (in some shop the minimum amount for card is 10 or 15€).
