I'll admit, I paid $5 for that floppy disk to scan my PC for potential Y2K risks. I never did get my dried beans and rice. Still waiting for them to go on sale.
So, AOC was walking through the Bronx. She came upon a set of tracks. She said to herself, "Oh look, deer tracks." She looked again and said, "Oh wait, those are bear tracks". Pondered a little more and said, "Oh silly me, those are rabbit...." The train hit her.

I wouldn't call anyone that believed that "wise".

As one who will be sixty this coming year I never gave it a second thought.

Ignore the hysteria, ignore your peers, ignore the news and THINK FOR YOURSELF!!!!

Any and all DOOMS that the main stream media promote is ALWAYS bullshit.

Any that they ridicule...try to hide...or downplay...

THEY are the dooms you DO need to pay closer attention to.

I actually hoped something would happen to crash global computing systems just to prove how stupid mankind was to invest it's existence so deeply in the hope that it never could.

While no rational person really believed Y2K would suddenly plunge us all into a second Dark Ages, it did compell many of us to reevaluate our personal dependancy upon an always-fragile supply chain and as such we built up pantries as a hedge against any form of disruptions and, and I was one of those people.

The experience didn't hurt me one bit, and I came way wiser and better able to handle an unexpected food shortage with my still well-stocked home. In addition, I have new knowledge/skills I never would've explored had it not been for that "hysteria" - and, I've saved hundreds of dollars by buying essential goods in small bulk quantities while onsale - this hedge against higher prices will always be a win-win.

The core hysteria centered around electronic banking and the possibility that accounts would be lost or inacessible for several days. I simply wrote myelf a short-term interest-free loan by pulling a couple of Grand out of the bank to have some extra cash onhand just in case. Three days later, I simply re-deposited same back into the bank and life went on just fine. I still do the exact same thing if there is a major blizzard predicted - it's just COMMON-SENSE! Like filling your car up with gas when a Saudi oilfield goes up in flames, 'cause it's a given that prices will spike for at least a few days as a reault.

No harm, no foul!

Re: Dear 20 year olds, your wise parents thought that the world would end on Jan 1, 2000.
Not at all true! I have a son that was born on 12/15/1999 and the biggest thing I worried about was my friends daughter that had pink eye! I didn't want her to touch my baby!!!

LOL!

True Story!

We were millennial year compliant at work too!

This memo is to announce the development of a new software system
which will be Year 2000 compliant.

This program is known as "Millennia Year Application Software System"
(MYASS).

Next Monday there will be a meeting in which I will show MYASS to
everyone.

We will hold demonstrations throughout the month so that all employees
will have an opportunity to get a good look at MYASS.

We have not addressed networking aspects yet, so currently only one
person at a time can use MYASS. This restriction will be removed after
MYASS expands.

Some employees have begun using the program already. This morning I
walked into a subordinate's office and was not surprised to find that
he had his nose buried in MYASS.

Some of the less technical people may be somewhat afraid of MYASS.
Last week my secretary said to me, "I'm a little nervous, I never put
anything in MYASS before." I helped her through the first time and
afterward she admitted that it was relatively painless and she was
actually looking forward to doing it again, and was even ready to kiss
MYASS.

There have been concerns over the virus that was found in MYASS upon
initial installation, but the virus has been eliminated and we were
able to save MYASS. In the future, however, protection will be
required prior to entering MYASS.

This database will encompass all information associated with the business.

As you begin using the program, feel free to put anything you want in MYASS.

As MYASS grows larger, we envision a time when it will be commonplace
for a supervisor to hand work to an employee and say, "here, stick
this in MYASS."

It will be a great day when we need data quickly and our employees can
respond, "Here it is, I just pulled it out of MYASS."

Needless to say, once you have all recognized the value of this
program and the great savings in time and effort to be realized, you
will want to kiss MYASS in gratitude!!
