If you can do what you love for a living, then that's great. The fact is, most people can't, so they do what they have to do instead.

I spend as little time working as possible in order to maximize my time living. I'm usually done for the day by 4am and the rest of the day is mine.

Of course there's housework and taking the kids to and fro, cooking, paying bills, etc., but that makes up a good portion of what I call 'living' and that's what I want to spend my time doing, not warming some stuffy cubicle doing some shit that I really don't even care about.

as this world grows up every job will be a mission...... and even dumb jobs are SERVICE if they bring some merit to them. See the job as service ... because in reality it is...

And perhaps artists to brighten ones not being demolished but needing love and care? Of course demolition experts can demolish just that is not salvable and envision the new possible.

The wonderful thing is, Archaic Smile, is that you KNOW YOU HAVE GOT A VOCATION, even if it is not quite evident yet!

There WILL be signs put directly in your path to direct you - your life is an adventure. If you are expecting signs, then you are more likely to see them. It may only be something small - it may be the headline on a newspaper on the seat next to you - but it will make you stop in your tracks and think "Huh, I wonder why that happened?" or "What is this trying to tell me?".

You may also consider which QUALITY needs to be increased, in order to get you on your way (if so, please consult my WHAT IS YOUR PROBLEM? WHICH QUALITY WILL SOLVE IT thread, link below).

And/or, WATCH THIS FILM! It is a bit "broadbrush", and there is much to discuss (i.e. flexibility alone will not suffice), but it give a lot of food for thought:

THANK YOU to all contributors: this is such an important topic to discuss because WE ARE THE CHANGE, as has so often been said. And if we are all IN SERVICE, as the poster ALL IS ONE IS ALL just mentioned, we are all automatically ON THE RECEIVING END. I've been sound engineer for some years in recording studio as I love music, I play guitar. And firstly it was like dream come true. Good salary, music everywhere, interesting people. I recorded few well known polish musicians and to bo honest... most of them are total idiots and dicks. Sorry for the language. Small young music groups were always grateful that they can record their music. But big so called stars were assholes. Weird expectations, zero technical knowledge from them.
Sometimes I was working whole night in studio. Anyway, I did my move and dumped it. Too many individual people around. It was stressfull to much.
The only thing I miss is that sometimes there were super special people I meet. For example I met rock star I was fan since I was young! We were talking few hours, even had a drink. Very polite and intelligent person. And whole recording was the easiest job ever. Only few takes and almost zero mastering.

Anyway.. I have some money saved and now I am taking programming language courses. It is going well and in 2020 I will have my first job. Why did I do this? I am into new technologies, few years ago I was coding some programms and I will spend my time in front of computer which.. I like. Salary will be much better, will see :)

That was interesting to read about your experiences, Adam. Thank you. I have a friend who studied music production and came - after a while - to the same conclusion - that the music industry, as it presently stands, was not the place she wanted to work. Instead she studied social work, worked as a music teacher in Africa and founded a charity there for orphans..... this is an example of how one thing - and the skills one gathers on the way - leads to the next, and all are essential steps on the journey.

Perhaps you can use your sound engineer knowledge for better use in the future, Adam.

im the busser at the restaurant where I work at. Its a pretty satisfying job, its helping me become better with people and connect with others. When I started I was a host and it was pretty bad(table rotation was a bitch). As a bus boy, my life changed forever. I had no clue that bussing tables would change me so much. I was shy as hell before, and super paranoid. Now its cool asf, sure since its the holidays, im spending my tipouts on partying but I think its all in good intention.

I help people out by making their day a bit better, and not focusing on how shitty I feel. We all feel like shit sometimes. SO its my job to make people feel well and happy, well I make it part of my job( and its MANDATORY).
Most people would think "oh what millennial false hope type of thinking is that? Bussing tables is a shit job" Well in my experience it tends to be good people in these "shit jobs' meanwhile shit people have the 'good jobs'

my vocation would be as an artist. If i had nothing getting in my was at all, I would totally become a full time artist. I love making art

I once met a strong Christan who told me that he did every task - big or small - as if he was doing it for Jesus. I found that quite impressive at the time. We must develop standards of excellence on this planet, and every small act of kindness contributes automatically to the betterment of the WHOLE, OF WHICH WE ARE ALL PART.

So congratulations to you, Stonedbriski for your positive attitude and ability to uplift the mood of your customers. The experience you gather will help you onto the next stage in your life. You are actually already being an "artist" in your present occupation - you are being CREATIVE with people, assessing their needs, choosing which words will go down best, being creative in your answers. So you are on the way to your "real vocation".

What is your DREAM JOB for 2020?

Concerning jobs, I am anticipating that many jobs will "disappear" in the future. As we move through this transition period towards a peaceful world (see my other thread), things will change rapidly. What comes to mind is the produce of harmful products in all areas - food, beauty products, agriculture. Then we have the demise of superfluous products - everything which is of bad quality, which has built in obsolescence, which is frivolous, which harms the earth. The population will also be less, requiring fewer things, and the population will have a higher level of spirituality, moving away from materialism and the money system.

What will become of your job in the face of this? And if it "disappears", what will be your contribution to society. This is what this thread is about - trying to prepare mentally for what is to come.

I have been thinking about the world MISSION, provoked by the statement below. Many people are automatically put off by the world MISSION because they associate it with MISSIONARIES of a religious order who may force their religious beliefs on others.

What is missing here is the feeling that each and everyone of us is SACRED, and that we have a SACRED MISSION - we are not simply incarnating here haphazardly, finding ourselves in less than pleasant circumstances and battling to get through it all. If we look at our lives so far - in particular at WHAT WE HAVE LEARNT, and also the supposed COINCIDENCES which we have experienced, then it will gradually dawn on us that there is something going on here, that there is something more to it, that we indeed are being "steered" in a certain direction by "divine hand" so that we can achieve THAT WHICH WE SET OUT TO ACHIEVE BEFORE WE DECIDED TO ENTER THIS WORLD, and which we will DISCUSS AT LENGTH (determining the use or efficacy of this incarnation) once "death" is over.

So, maybe the title of this thread should actually be WHAT IS YOUR MISSION? I would have liked to use this word, but felt it would put people off. It is time to realize that we are all special and have a special task, ESPECIALLY IN THESE TIMES OF GREAT CHAOS, COMPLEXITY AND TRANSITION.

As these disturbing and intransparent times become even more chaotic, we will be forced more and more to consider what is really worthwhile, and where to place our energy. With time, many will realize that their job or occupation is redundant in the face of concentrating on absolute priorities. Others will realize that what they do is actually wasteful or damaging to humanity and to the earth. In the course of the chaos, many will be forced to swing around completely, and try something new, or to make use of skills which have been "going to waste".

This is a warning that this period is approaching.

There might be a market for health-conscious, pastries with organic ingredients.

I'm a fabricator, restorer, tinkerer, maker......My day job is making parts for antique machinery and locks.....

Fullfilling?

YES! been doing 30+ yrs.....I'm self employed, work in my own workshop, and set my own schedule....being its an odd skill set, I get paid well.....want proof? I do it as a hobby when not paid for it....lol.....I also do side projects like jewelry making, making special camera mounts, modifying fishing reels, etc....pretty much anything that requires machine shop work....

Benefit humanity?

I re purpose a lot of "junk" into my work....a small way of being "green".....the things I retore or fix will continue to be cherished, used and not in a landfill....

I would say YES, you are benefitting humanity; repurposing "junk" and fixing things instead of trashing them is aver very valuable trait, and you are laying a path for others to follow. Your actions and intent are "stored" in the earth's genetic mind, thus making this information available to be "downloaded" by others.

This may seem somewhat abstract. Perhaps we can look at in in another way. A lizard knows how to be a lizard, and what is important for a lizard's way of life, because it downloads this information from the "lizard file" in the earth's mind/computer. And humans do the same. By acting in an honest, diligent and meaningful way, others are also strengthened to act in honest, diligent and meaningful ways.

The fulfilling things about being self-employed, as you mention, is self-determination, working on one's own schedule. What I also notice is that I can be so spontaneous. If someone suddenly needs help, if there is a crisis, or if the sun suddenly shines and I want to go for a walk - all this is possible.

It is indeed our task, AC, to manifest the Divine on this earth, and in this way we are all THE WORD, if this how we want to phrase it. Yes, Iran's architecture is amazing. Such beauty evokes wonder and joy, and also inspires us to introduce more colour/design into our lives, thus creating SACRED SPACES.

As a young individual I was sold into the college loan crisis and auto loan crisis that my total debts I will never be able to pay off unless I do it with "gazelle" intensity. Going on vacation is just adding to the debt which will be for my whole life.

instead, "Vacation" is planting trees, plants, feeding the birds/squirrels and growing an organic garden.

Lord knows this debt isn't going anywhere and my job is strictly to help me satisfy nature and give back.

I love my career. I left the Army in 2004, and opened a business with another guy that was successful because we both put hours, effort, and knowing when to and when not to throw shit out, when to and when not to be tolerant, and most importantly, to deliver the best. If someone wants cheaper, they can get less quality elsewhere, because most other places worth anything will have comparable rates. Throughout the time, I took side work doing what I do now, but as I was able to do it full time, I changed. The consistency is working on commission. In 18, It became his business. He deals with the public, but I get to be more selective, and I’m not as affected by holiday spending etc.

You touch on such an important point, which is the satisfaction of producing something of HIGH QUALITY. The world would be a much better place if everyone "delivered the best" and adhered to high standards in their behaviour towards others, as it seems you do.
