Personally, I am not convinced that there were extremely advanced civilizations that long ago.

However, I am in the electroplating business.

Some in our industry think that the crude battery was indeed used for electroplating gold onto lead ornaments.

So, they were scamming the rubes with fake "pure gold" jewelry over 2000 years ago.

Another theory about human progress is that "aliens" gave guidance, for example, to the ancient Egyptians on how to build pyramids.

If the aliens wanted to really help, they could have shown the Egyptians how to smelt iron ore into steel or how to make machine tools and lathes.

I think the truth is that some ancients figured out geometry and mathematics before the time of the Greeks. That along with massive amounts of physical labor could account for the pyramids.

My own hypothesis: Humans have been breeding dogs and livestock for desirable traits for tens of thousands of years.

With the absolute control that rulers and priests had over vast populations, they BRED smarter humans. By careful breeding you could have an army of geniuses in three generations.

Really smart engineers using primitive tools and materials to produce astounding results...that I would believe.

The fossil record of the ancestors of humans provides a lot of evidence. Nevertheless, there are puzzling anomalies that indicate we don't really understand the past.

I think that once humans began to develop intelligence, it progressed rapidly.

Every primitive stone age tribe was in a constant state of warfare with their neighbors. The winners, often more intelligent with better tactics or improved weaponry, took possession of the women of the fallen group.

Thus, the most intelligent and fit spread their genes rapidly.

Ditto with our prehistoric ancestors who figured out a way to have a reliable, abundant food source, e.g., a better way of killing mammoths or drying salmon. They multiplied like rabbits and passed on those genes for intelligence and creativity.

I once had a job herding a bunch of scientific geniuses at my aerospace company and getting the government to fund them.

They came from many countries and cultures, but what intelligence!

They were looking for our sun's Nemesis with that project. A binary dual to our sun which would explain all of this.

So the astute observation is not the proven fact of the asteroid changing out climate (and how it means OP's conclusion on the cause of the ice age around 12k years ago is not on-point)
