There are so many myths surrounding Russia. In reality Russia has the biggest muslim minority out of all European countries. At the same time indigenous population is dying out. It's not some kind of white conservative paradise that some portray it to be. Russia's economy is comparable in size to a single American State, or corporation.

Russia doesn't spend a tiny fraction of the money you spend on defense. You guys can't even afford health care.

The country with the second largest number of aircraft carriers after the US is China, with more on the ways being built. China should be up to 5 or 6 aircraft carriers by the end of 2025.

Aircraft carriers are now OLD technology and would NOT last long in an all out war anymore though for smaller regional conflicts they provide a quick mobile air platform for projecting power far away from their home country.

Russia's sea power is mostly about submarines. China is copying the US and building up a diversified surface fleet as well as expanding it's undersea capabilities, China is definitely the country to watch, starting in the next decade, as moving to rival the US's naval reach and power.

China has a civilian seagoing presence that makes the US look like a midget fighting a heavyweight, and has the shipyard capacity to out build the US at least 10/1 in that realm, and probably about 5/1 in the naval seapower realm (if it chooses to do so).

Once China's NAVY surpasses the US's in the Western Pacific region (about 2023-2024) things will start to get VERY interesting for the US with it's attempt to keep the South China Sea under it's (US's) control.

So yes, the Admiral Kuznetsov is a piece of shit. However, Russia is not that far behind being able to deploy new carriers if it really wanted to. These days, just take large cruisers, frigates, destroyers, add flat tops to them, and voila, you have mini carriers that can deploy with vertical take off jets, drones, and more. This is what Japan has done as part of its effort to counter China. I would not be surprised if Russia decided to go that route.

PS: Admiral Kuznetsov is a man who at the beginning of World War II saved a part of the USSR fleet from the destruction of Nazi fascists. He arbitrarily took part of the fleet to the north. Something like that. Admiral Kuznetsov dreamed that the USSR had such aircraft carrier cruisers like the American ones. Therefore, the first aircraft carrier received his name. It is a pity that people died and the prestige of the country and so on was damaged.

The only hitch is you need a 5th gen vertical take-off fighter-bomber in mass production and the logistics chain to support such a craft.

China's aircraft carriers are shit.

They cut corners in the worst possible ways to build them fast.

Every fire hazard built-in Russian carriers were only worsened in the design of China's carriers.

Their aircraft don't have the power to launch with full battle loads and their carriers don't even have catapults to launch more than one aircraft at a time.

The only way China could build a decent carrier is to seize the Sungdong shipyards in South Korea, where giant ships are built.

People talk a lot of shit about the Kuznetsov but I think it's a cool old ship. I hope they save it.

In any case, Russia has gained valuable experience in owning an aircraft carrier. I have no doubt that the corresponding conclusions will be drawn.And is it generally reasonable to have such an expensive maintenance equipment in the current modern conditions of warfare? Probably for the robbery of some backward country it is worth having such a technique. My private opinion, I am not a military expert.

Russians don't need any carries because their maing goal is to defend their country, they have so much firepower that can annihilate any state regardless of the navy
