Normal Is Subjective (OP) User ID: 278380 Canada 08/06/2007 06:46 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Interesting timing on this and flood legends: "Looking for evidence of ancient cataclysmic floods, Underworld explores up-to-date geological and climatological research on what may have happened during the last 17,000 years. Central to Hancock's investigation are inundation maps created by Dr. Glen Milne of Durham University which show vast tracts of mostly coastal land which were submerged by three waves of cataclysmic flooding between 17,000 and 8,000 years ago. The area of land -- the best quality habitable land of that time -- lost to the sea was huge: 5 percent of the earth's surface or 25 million square kilometers." I found this which i think is also quite interesting, just follow the links for more info. [link to theorionzone.blogspot.com] I'm still waiting for the day i find my first clovis point. one of these days perhaps. I did find a paleo knife last month, estimated to be 9000 - 11,000 . I sent it off to be authenticated. |

Inquisitor User ID: 278569 Germany 08/06/2007 09:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | June 28, 2007 Quoting: Normal Is SubjectiveComet theory collides with Clovis research, may explain disappearance of ancient people A theory put forth by a group of 25 geo-scientists suggests that a massive comet exploded over Canada, possibly wiping out both beast and man around 12,900 years ago, and pushing the earth into another ice age. This is the Younger Dryas Event. Mainstream science is finally catching on that the genetic bottlenecks around 13,000 years ago were caused by a cataclysmic event. Large mammals which had roamed the Earth for Millions of years disappeared at this time: Mastodons, Giant Bear, giant beaver, North American horse, camels, etc. all went extinct roughly concurrent with this event. This theory has been gathering steam for 70 years (or longer) but mainstream "knowledge" has been slow to capitulate. There are literally thousands of Paleogeological papers on the world-wide effects of the Younger Dryas event, but connecting this to a recent (13,000 year ago) mass extinction event is strictly taboo. Paul LaViolette, Stichen, and others have proposes that this ancient cataclysm is recorded in our ancient scripture. |

Interesting how many events, myths and legends happen to fall in a relatively narrow time-frame and how a number of researchers (Donnelly,Sitchen,Velikovsky and others) believe there is a cyclical nature to them.
