Just for the record ALL windows system have a backdoor nowadays this is why they have to update them so much and why they are so unstable.

Just for the record, with tens of thousands of hackers and security researchers working hard, there is no evidence that
what you state here is true.
Problematic applications the last few years have been Adobe Flash Player and other addons to Microsoft's operating systems.
Windows 7 is pretty tight.
Nobody should be using windows OS from before Windows 7.
And nobody should be running any desktop computer with an
administrator/root account.

You'll still have an ip address.
Only way to not be tracked is to find
a VPN service that cares more about your
well-being than their own.
I don't think there is such an animal.

Or install proxies on unsuspecting people's computers,
but that'd be a crime in and of itself.

I think some of you still are in believe that the "Hackers" aka Anonymous are on your side and with the population over 6 Billion there should be at last 1 million hackers on the world or more.

So do this mean they can check all the data and code to see if it is secure ? You are really kidding me ??? There are tons of 0 day exploit and even secret one where Hackers don't speak about them so they can sneak back every time they want.

And next you should code with the ability to sneak into your hardware without knowing of your firewall as called aka "Rootkit" there are some low tech of these on the net already BUT if you understand the fundamentals of that you can code some nasty shit.

Your ignorance wont ensure you that this is all garbage as i know what i am saying as i have lot of people that handle this shit every day!

There are codes out there in the internet your eyes would literally pop out.

Why do you think almost all China hardware is assembled there ? Money ? Check your reality as you still live in 1995 dear reader.

You should ask yourself why there is no "New" encryption algorithm that replaces all this weak old encryption we still use for even our financial institutes ! They control already the internet.

The only they don't control is still our Mind. Get this into your head!

A dll is NOT a driver it is a library file.(DynamicLinkLibrary) Not link like a hotlink or a link out to a webpage.

This dll was issued first with W95 and ended with W2000.

Grow up.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 244989

AC, .dll files can be treated as .exe's and even as drivers. Take a look at your graphics driver files and see which one(s) are active in your computer's RAM. More than likely it'll be at least one .dll file acting as a driver. I know NVIDIA has at least one .dll file to do that.
 Quoting: darkwolf007

They don't even need a dll anymore they have a hardware based OS on your Chip already that means they can access when ever it is plugged into the internet.

Like all Network cards are have a chip where they can control your pc when ever they want to.

due to the vast numbers of variable names used in an OS the size of windows, one with the three letters NSA is inevitable just due to chance. I guess the NSA is as dumb as a CIA undercover agent wearing a name tag with a CIA logo regarding their file names if this story is to be believed. I believe it was mentioned that debug symbols are available to anyone who wants them. It is possible to change almost anything in windows with a driver development kit. It is just that Microsoft won't certify it if they don't like what you did. There will be a "use at your own risk" prompt when installing software. Anyone saying debug symbols availability is a Microsoft security leak is just ignorant, they are freely available. Besides all this, Microsoft software is scrutinized by more hostile eyes for security problems and other things that would be embarrassing to Microsoft than any other OS. If Windows opened up a TCP/IP port to a server at the NSA and started sending network traffic it would be instantly reported on the internet far and wide by all the Linux fanboy 'windoze' watchers.

So in the future all CPU chips are going to have the NSAkey backdoor built directly into the CPU itself.

So their is no way to detect it or make changes.

I'm saying the idea that there are backdoors purposely built into OSes and network hardware has never been discovered by anyone.
And there are gobs of people who test and research that sort of thing constantly.
Now there are gobs of old routers out there that are completely open, not due to a purpose built-in backdoor, but due instead to them being old and buggy and not updated by the manufacturers any more.
And every brand is represented up to and including Cisco.
But its not by original design.

i am thinking of using ubuntu for the desktop -- if i get a wireless card (say dlink or linksys) from the local store and install it -- would ubuntu have drivers for them because i cannot see it on the box label... ..??

or printer drivers etc etc etc
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 270632

I wouldn't start out just on linux. Dual booting is safer, and I dual booted for years.

Don't like Ubuntu, but Mint Linux 64 bit, is based on it and quite nice, as is pinguy 64 bit. And they work out of the box for the all the video and dvd drivers.

The best linux so far, that I have ever tried over many years, remains the same: Pclinuxos and now they also have 64 bit. It is far less glitchy than the other two. You don't have to worry about updating the computer through sypnasis and suddenly loosing sound, like ubuntu, and that happened to me on my pinguy after installing wow in wine for the boys.

But the process of insuring YOUR wireless driver is amongst the chosen ones in a distro.....

So you begin with dual booting, and in the end if you're not a heavy gamer, and only play the few, such as wow, that works with wine, and your printer is good, many printers work fine now, you can later install a different linux on the windows compartment and dual boot two different linux's.

However if the wireless doesnt work, you'll be in windows looking for your distro's advice on how to MASK a driver, and Install or Unmask the one you need, like I did. Then it worked just fine.

Also if you use certain programs like IMBU or whatever its called, that the kids like, its only windows programa and doesnt run in wine.

I don't dual boot any longer on mine, its all linux. But they have windows for their gaming.

Pclinuxos 64 bit is my first and main, and then mintlinux 64 bit is the second one and its good, but I only do the upgrade once, and you have to be careful its only a distro upgrade, otherwise the ubuntu sypnasis wants to recode your sytem and convert it all to theirs.
 Quoting: Sungaze_At_Dawn

I completely 100% agree- you gotta get away from Windows. Microsoft is completely in partnership with NSA, etc.

I highly recommend open source programs and operating systems such as linux- you control the code, you control your own destiny.

That being said, Hewlett Packard PCs and laptops sold with Windows 7 or higher sold already on them have made it next to impossible to dual boot linux and windows on these machines.

I spent the better part of last week trying to figure out how to do it. The closest I got was by using unetbootin to configure a usb stick to boot linux...but it would only work in compatibility mode only and whatever changes you make cannot be saved.

I'll spare you the technical details because it will make your eyes bleed, but basically you have to overcome these obstacles:

1. HP uses all 4 of the allowable partitions
2. Microsoft forces new partitions as Dynamic instead of basic on Windows 7 and higher- linux can't use it
3. Video card incompatibilities force you to boot into compatibility mode until you get the right drivers- good luck.
4. Same as number 3 above for the wifi driver

IMHO, linux is the way to go to beat these Big Brother Bastards. Wanna use linux?

1. Install it on an older machine prior to Windows 7
2. Use a computer other than an HP
3. If you insist on HP, order one with Linux already installed from the factory

Feel free to contact me if you want linux advice...I will gladly save you from the asspain that I went through. I wish I could get that week of my life back.
 Quoting: millenniumjackal

What software do you use for the Windows-Linux Dual Boot...

I'm trying to decide, but I don't want to write onto a partition?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 40962323

There are ways to dual boot without having to create a partition, like making a Live CD or bootable USB.

I had the most success with downloading the unetbootin software and using that to make a USB to boot from.

I had to use this method because my HP laptop comes from the factory with 4 used hard drive partitions, and Windows will not let you create more than 4. Also, I have Windows 7, and even if I could make a 5th partition, those bastards at Microsoft have made it impossible to format a partition as Basic and force it as a Dynamic partition which is a Microsoft proprietary format that Linux can't read because it can't see the code.

I played around with Ubuntu, Mint and Debian.

I do not recommend Ubuntu because of privacy concerns with some of their code...it reports back what you search according to the EFF. Mint is Ubuntu based. That being said, I found Mint to be the most compatible and easy to use from the get go.

I recommend a Debian-based release because it has a commitment to using purely open source code, it has no known privacy concerns and it is easier to use than some other Linux formats.

The nice thing about Linux is that it is user created and provides lots of choices. But that can be dizzying.

Using windows is like walking around with a blindfold on.

Take the blindfold off, and you'll see there is a whole other world out there beyond what Bill Gates and Steve Jobs forced you to see.
