Hulu gives Sony the finger. Why?
From months ago:

"Hulu Service to end on Blu-ray Disc Players beginning August 2019
Applicable Products and Categories of This Article
Dear Valued Sony Customer,

Beginning on August 14, 2019, the Hulu app will no longer be available on certain U.S. Blu-Ray Disc player models, due to the fact that the app will no longer be supported by Hulu on those models. Please refer to the list of U.S. models below to determine if your device is affected. This list is subject to change.

We appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."

Why would they do this? They say that are cancelling it because the cost of maintaining the app are too high. That's so clearly a lie it's not worth considering. But, I'm still confused. I'm paying $$ to Hulu, and now I'm cancelling. From a business perspective, it makes no sense for Hulu to do this. So, I am going here to ask why it was done from a conspiratorial perspective.

Its not a lie. App development for all the random individual blue-ray player/smart tv firmwares is definitely a huge burden

I disagree. Also, there's a big difference in the cost of building something for a new platform, and the cost of not doing anything at all, letting it continue to work. (It's not like my blu ray player was changed.)

Blu-ray players have old software, it's retarded to keep up development on them, sometimes impossible. Sony won't roll out updates, maybe because they can't due to hardware limitations, and hulu says flip off. Makes sense.

No. What you wrote is stupid. We are never going to buy another sony product. And Hulu will never get another dime from me. Both companies lost from this. There's more to the story.

I have the same problem. One has to have multiple steaming devices not just one, even if the second device is just a good lap top. Personally, give me You Tube, fox and a free movie channel like Tubi and that plenty more tv than I wish to watch.

Buy a Roku ultra and plug it in the other tv hdmi outlet, and you are good to go. Roko won't play dvds, music cds, or usb so use both. Sony blue ray upgrades old dvd resolution to HD so the picture is very good. IOWs still a very useful device despite the streaming limitations.

Re: Hulu gives Sony the finger. Why?
I am not looking for a solution to how to watch hulu ever again. Not interested. My purpose is to find out the truth. Hulu spends a billion a year to make their own movies and tv shows. By comparison, the "cost" to keep an app is zero. The cost of maintaining an app is the salary of 1 programmer. Do the math to see how it makes no sense to cut off many of their paying customers. What's the real reason?

Re: Hulu gives Sony the finger. Why?
Probably has to do with one of the following,
Theres malware in music videos for protection, the marai virus.if you copy it on the side,it eventually jams up the memory of the player.
Sony is playstation and cyberpunk is coming out.its going to be huge and they dont want to chance getting marai in cyberpunk.
Hulu is going to get eat by cyberpunk subscriptions and its days are over in less than ten years.

I think I got a clue now. "In March 2019, Disney acquired 21st Century Fox, giving it a 60% majority stake in Hulu." It's got to be related to this. Somehow. Disney, the company that killed off star wars to promote feminism.

Probably the presidents of the company had a falling out. Sometimes these feuds between elites give the best clues about how things really work.

So what?

My TV and my Apple TV and several other devices have Hulu apps built in! If an ancient disc player doesn’t- why would I care? Besides you can easily login to Hulu on your computer or iPhone and watch it from those devices! No loss IMHO
