It takes about 642 years for the star's light to get to Earth so any sign that it might be going supernova that we are seeing now, actually happened in 1377.
'If Betelgeuse goes supernova, the blast will take 20,000-100,000 years to reach usdood, wasting time discussing this not gonna happen in our lifetime so who gives dafuq? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 57897053 blast, but not gamma rays (with light speed).
