Lennon was making a joke to his friends and SIMPLY said RAJ so they could understand him easily. Kinda hard to say "Rajneesh" BACKWARDS. That's why he simply said JAR (in reverse). So those not familiar with speaking backwards would understand. Plus it was probably his nickname. "Raj" for "Rajneesh". ie. JAR backwards.

Jar backwards would be something like "lach".

Backmasking changes consonants to sounds you would not expect.

For example, "If you want it, here it is come and get it" backwards is "say half of them who work this out hear paul I miss you".

It's totally not what you would expect.
