If the Iranians anticipated and attacked the marine convoy, this thing just went to a whole new level.

Iran just got through got done with military war games with China and Russia as allies. Iran is becoming bold now that it has allies to rival the U.S. They are attempting to take Iraq, and deny the U.S. a foothold in the middle east. They have no doubt been briefed by Russia and China's brightest minds on this. We are bucking a stacked deck here, and it adds a whole new element. Either the U.S. commits more resources to bolster its position, or risks being overrun by Iranian funded militias. Meanwhile, Iran will surge elsewhere, taking advantage of the removal of the resources removed to protect Iraq. This is a chess game now and Russia and China are helping Iran in ways most just don't realize. The Russians will not really have their backs when it comes down to it. They backed off spring before last in Syria and they would probably not have Iran's back. Maybe, but that's a gamble with an awful lot on the line, it changes the complexion of the whole game. You can be dann sure our think tanks and intellegence apparatus is working that right now, but assuming the worst case scenario, Russian military backed Iran.
