How would a city defend Iran or China sending 1000's of drones with guns into a city? | |

It wouldn't have to be point and shoot either, could be widely dispersed broad spectrum if you didn't mind losing some harmless radio communications for a minute. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73835668 I saw this on Ted Talk. Say Iran has underground base making 1000's or tens of thousands drones with little unlimited nuke powered batteries and little 22 caliber guns with thousands or rounds of ammo and their army controls them from a bunker, flies these 10,000s of drones in to a city like LA or NY and just went on a spree? How could you defend vs that? Lol, even the smallest nuke reactor is very heavy. It would be some drone to lift that and a gun and amo and all the coolent for the reactor. Not viable with our tech yet. It would be massive and very exspensive. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75984216 Elmer Fudd or that spear chucker midevil dude make drones go to sleep. If they are small the local eagles will crash them they don't like drones. For those who are culturally deprived Elmer Fudd was a world famous shot gunning duck hunter. |

darth User ID: 28178764 United States 01/01/2020 09:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You tell 'em three things about drones... 1. They outa season 2. They's a limit o 2 3. Dey go real good in gumbo Originally, that is something my old Cajun First Sargent (MSG Boudreaux) told me about how to win the Viet Nam war. Only, he gave the example of three things to tell the Cajuns about the Viet Cong. On a serious note, I would be very surprised if DARPA does not have a prototype of an anti-drone-drone. A very fast drone with a gasoline engine for longer flight times and a 12 gauge shotgun. Program it to remove all enemy drones from the skies. BTW, when I was a cadet, I wrote an early expert system program to identify objects on an infrared sensor system. My program, in Fortran, identified objects as humans, trucks, houses, or water buffalo. I programmed it to shoot everything except the water buffalo. You could attach it to a gun system and fly over the Ho Chi Minh Trail at night blasting everything except the water buffalo. That was in 1971. Imagine what we can do now. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75984216 Doesn't matter. Without an active GPS connection the drones can't tell where they are, even if they have a predefined course they need a grid reference to see where they are on it. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77227766 Canada 01/01/2020 09:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Also, you'd be able to trace a big cloud of flying radio signals back to their origin and bomb the shit out of it. Anything controlled by a human in real time can be made useless by interrupting the signal. If AI-enabled drones attack, just throw a semi-transparent tarp over yourself and go about your day. Either they'd be programmed to go after human shapes and faces in particular, or they'd attack anything that moves and expend their ammo before they get too far. |
