There will be attacks in all manner of places trying to shatter the nerves of Americans. Will they be surprised to know we don't crumble so easily? That we tend to become more determined, to stand straighter, to look for opportunities and have remarkable situational awareness as a result? I think they will indeed be surprised. We haven't spent our lives living in sand, riding camels, assaulting animals and children, but have lived very differently from them, believe very differently, and behave very differently. They are likely trying to get some resources diverted away to make a retaliatory strike in Iraq more successful.

Just an FYI: Iran doesn't have any major ties with Al-Shabaab, so I wouldn't concern yourself with this being an Iran-backed attack.

The U.S. cant defend every place at once and there are a lot more of them than U.S. Military personel. Trump with his actions is getting a lot of soldiers killed. Great plan.

The timing of this attack is certainly coincidental, given the rhetoric coming from Iran, but odds are this is unrelated to the Iranian crisis. Al-Shabaab is a Sunni terrorist group. Iran is Shia. Is it possible they're working together against a common enemy? Yes, but we won't know that until later today at the earliest.

Also being reported that it's ongoing, so time will tell

Not sure what the our force makeup there is but looks like a joint training base. Most likely some element of special operations guys there among others. We need to be on heightened alert everywhere, and we ARE everywhere.

Al-Shabab fighters have stormed a military base in Kenya's Lamu county used by US and Kenyan military personnel, a government official and the armed group said.

"There was an attack but they have been repulsed," Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia told AFP news agency.

It was unclear whether there were any casualties following the dawn attack by the al-Qaeda-linked group.

"The Mujahideen fighters covertly entered enemy lines, successfully stormed the heavily fortified military base and have now taken effective control of a part of the base," the group said in a statement.
