The 35-year-old motorcyclist was hit head-on by a driver who swerved across the road while going around a bend on a country road travelling at 70mph... ..The motorcyclist suffered a broken back, broken sternum and broken wrist in the smash. The rider, who is from Barnsley, has since credited the protective gear he was wearing at the time, including a full-leather, airbag suit which inflated on impact, with saving his life. I travel with my cell phone camera in my Truck windshield. My wifes Acura has Cameras all the way around on each side that record any accident in the car from every angle. In all of your newer high end cars this is part of the safety package that protects insurance companies from liars. And on any one of the four or five motorcycles I drive or race, I have my go Pro's facing forward and back wards, for a better view of some of the riding I do. saved User ID: 9796681 ![]() 01/11/2020 11:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Watched a crash as a kid...Guy pulled in front of a bike doing sixty. Threw the rider into the light pole. the guy was ok until he realized it was a girl. She be dead. The guy that taught me everything I know about my career field, knows that I race and we both are avid motorcycle enthusiast. He called me up and tells me his 21 year old nephew who has a wife and kid had been working for a week on getting an old Honda 1000 sport bike running. I told him that he of all people should know better, and take the keys from him. A bike that does nearly 200 miles an hour is not a first time riders motorcycle, to easy to get in over your head fast, not having enough seat time to judge even distance much less speed. He called me a month later only to tell me that something catastrophic had taken place. My stomach just sank! He had got the thing running, threw a helmet and some gloves on and took it on a maiden voyage. He nearly died. Will live the rest of his life on a bag. He lost both legs and one arm and is unbelievably still alive! Hit a telephone pole and a road sign that sliced and diced him. If he had been wearing a leather suit the chance of him retaining those limbs would have gone up significantly. He is permanently on two wheels of a safer kind now. ![]() Last Edited by saved on 01/11/2020 11:14 PM Come And Take It! |

We see these stories daily on the news though, and I have driven past dozens of fatal motorcycle wrecks in recent years.. here's another yesterday .. LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -- A woman was killed in a motorcycle versus vehicle collision near Decatur Boulevard and Diablo Drive Thursday morning. the Mazda failed to yield right-of-way at the stop sign, resulting in the crash. The Harley rider died at the scene, police said. So after your broken back and sternum and wrist heals up, you can get right back out there, on the road. They weren't designed for vehicle impacts. They were designed for motorcycle crashes on a race track, when you high side @ 150mph. Takes a lot of the impact and disperses the energy. Impacting a stationary object at speeds over a 100 miles an hour easily removes unprotected body parts. Having any kind of suit on is really meant to protect you from surface abrasions and helps to prevent broken bones tearing through the skin and keeping your body parts connected and inside of a much tougher leather exterior. Skin can be like a wet paper napkin under extreme conditions. Ive been put back together more than a few times, and was grateful to be able to afford leathers and a quality helmet. No better teacher than experiencing the inevitable thing about 2 wheel riders. Two kinds of riders those that have been down and those who are going to go down. ![]() ![]() Come And Take It! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 78332936 ![]() 01/12/2020 01:12 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Looks like snake pass, which is literally 10 minutes away from where i live. I stopped motorcycling on public roads and sold my road bikes because idiots in cars are in charge of your life, i just dirtbike now. I've had so many people on phones pull out at junctions, not watch what they are doing and phone zombies just step out into the road i gave up, im either going to kill somebody through no fault of my own or somebody is going to kill me. When people are in 2 ton vehicles traveling at 50mph not paying attenion and you are coming the opposite way at 50mph its just luck if you dont become a paraplegic if they fuck up, its not that the speed is dangerous, its a combination of other people not having due care and attenion and a bag of meat sat on an engine traveling at speeds >30mph Cant wait till somebody puts out an electric dirtbike that does 75mph and 100-250 miles range and weighs 120lbs, im happy to ride on the roads at 30mph max and be an adrenaline junkie off road, at least if i fuck up its my own damned fault. It sounds crazy but id rather ride on the road on a lightweight bike at 30mph with no helmet, or an open helmet than ride on a sports bike with full gear at 50-60mph, why? because 95/100 its safer to be aware of everything going on around you, and be hyper aware and avoid other peoples idiocy than wear the protective gear and not have as much situational awareness as possible. |
