Do you think you heard Kentucky along with hearing Tennessee.

Did it seem like the alert primarily only mentioned states that are in the heartland, but are also located west of the Mississippi River.

Yellowstone or the New Madrid Seismic Zone could be waking up.

That's why I really want to find someone else who heard the message. I want to know what I missed of it, what other states and the specific warning at the beginning of the test.
I can find nothing about it on the interwebs.

Re: WHAT WAS THAT? - Emergency broadcast system test named a shitload of heartland states THEN said "this is a test"
I cant find a thread about it and you guys are going to think I'm full of shit but..
I couldn't post right after it happened, but at about 10:30 this morning I was driving North on I35 through Austin when the local station I was listening to did an Emergency broadcast system test. A fucking weird one...
It did the beep beep beep thing and said there is an emergency alert for a shitload of heartland states. It caught me so off gaurd, I was listening for Texas (of course) but I remember Texas,Kansas,Oklahoma,Tennessee, Illinois, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, and others I cant remember. But all heartland states.
"All" of the states listed, not parts of each state is what it said.
DID ANYONE ELSE HEAR THIS?
I figured by now there would be a thread on this, I just got home from my trip, and.... nothing.
If this is a warning, its gotta be an EMP. That's all I can figure would strike such a large area.
Someone please tell me ya'll heard this so I know I'm not going insane.

I've posted here about the strange EAS's I've seen on TV, for all Connecticut counties and Nome Alaska with some random other places.

I have noted that the emergency testing is at odd times and not the normal once a month test. I have yet to hear one giving locations.

They're going to nuke the US and either blame a DS asset like NK or Iran. Or possibly a "meteorite" impact.
It's none of those things.

Not yet. I can't find anything on the net about the test.
Since I live 2 hours from Austin, I was just passing through, I don't know anyone that might have been listening to that station to ask.
My dad was in the shop with the radio on all day in East Texas, and he didn't hear any test.
So it's a stalemate until an Austin dweller stumbles across this thread I guess.

a week or so ago this emergency broadcast came on the car radio and then an amber alert was spoken of that was a first for us. it was a person out of arkansas been missing since sept in a silver car... I would say for a jan storm this damage was most likely weather manipulation

Hmm. I'm in Oklahoma and I can say this much about it, we had one on the local channels here that I thought was odd because they usually come on in the mornings when they test their monthly.

This on was about an hour and a half ago or so. I unfortunately didn't pay it any mind outside of thinking it was strange to have one so late so I can't comment on anything else.

Another oddity though that's been happening for a couple months now is that they've changed the ticker color from red to green, and instead of a required test of the emergency alert system it says a civil defense authority has issued a required test.

Make of it what you will.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75162763

Thank you!
I didnt notice if it said civil defense, I was teasing the wife about nukes coming when it began, and quickly shut up when they started listing states. So I missed the very beginning - due to being a jackass.
It broke in midway through a song, I thought that weird too because most tests are during breaks.
 Quoting: wingnut1234

As far as breaking in during a song, that's more and more common, especially in night/weekend hours when the station is automated. The test signal comes through and is allowed to be routed immediately to air. During hours when the studio is manned, the alert notification will come through, and the board operator can delay it until they can fit it into programming, usually at the end of a commercial break (called in the industry, a "stop-set.")

It sounds like someone may have hacked the early warning system. They have been warning us that cyber security attacks could become an issue.

This would also coincide with the Kansas lawmakers having a prompt emergency meeting with the DHS officials today. It was reported that this meeting may have been cyber security related.

I think they said Kentucky, but like I said I was so shocked that its unclear.
I joked to my wife when the tone came on that "well, here come the nukes"
Then when it started with the states we both freaked. So my memory is rattled
 Quoting: wingnut1234

Thanks for trying to remember, I appreciate it.

I can well understand you feeling rattled by hearing such an alert, test or no test.

Take note that Texas has its own stand-alone electrical power grid.

Other than that, there is an Eastern power grid and a Western power grid that only recently we are being told are co-dependent; one goes down, they both go down.

I believe Alaska and Hawaii each have their own power grids.

However, Alaska's power grid could be linked in with that of Canada or the US Western power grid.
