"RICHMOND, Va. – Concealed handgun permits held by residents of 25 states will no longer be valid in Virginia, the state's attorney general said Tuesday, drawing swift criticism from GOP lawmakers.

Attorney General Mark Herring, a Democrat, said the state will revoke its reciprocity agreement with the states because their concealed weapon laws don't meet Virginia's standards. Those states hand out permits to people who are barred under the Virginia law, like fugitives, convicted stalkers and drug dealers, which undermines the state's law and puts residents at risk, he said."

Wow the Republicans blew it by not getting it together when they had all three branches and didn’t pass the National reciprocity bill... among other things.

I'm not seeing how the article isn't relevant, though old, to what's currently going on there. I would think this has been brought up by the OP, whether knowingly or not, to inform those who are considering going that are from out-of-state to perhaps reconsider or take precautionary measures in light of this "old" article. It sounds like to me that the groundwork has been laid years in advance for precisely this moment.
