Interesting article. When you run a PCR test you basically replicate the viral RNA over a number of cycles to increase the quantity to make it easier to detect, so what they are referring to as the "copy number" is the end result readout of said PCR testing. They contrast this with the results from TCID(Subscript)50, which is a method of culturing (Let it infect and replicate naturally) virus to also test for viability.

What they show is something we already somewhat knew. Exposure to UV makes the virus less viable but this is not reflected in PCR testing results. This is not surprising because PCR only tests for the presence of virus RNA. The RNA is the 'payload' of the virus and it is what in the end does the damage does the damage, but there is a lot around that is required to deliver the payload. In the case of a bomb you need a delivery method (Plane, Missile), a sturdy casing around to it keep it together and a detonator to tell it when to go boom. The virus works in the same way, it is encased in proteins that keep is from dissolving and it has proteins that bind to receptors to deliver the payload etc. UV can help to damage any of these elements in the virus and make it ineffective but if the viral RNA is intact the PCR test will pick it up.

So why do we even use PCR testing? Because it's relatively fast and cheap compared to culturing. In the best case scenario we would want to culture every sample for viability but it's not a process that is open to the same level of automation and it's more resource intensive.

Hi, lovely souls. Yes, it's the cycline antibiotics that become toxic over time (especially doxycycline) -- though supposedly there was going to be a change of formula a number of years back to prevent that. I still wouldn't trust them if expired.

The others are generally fine well past the expiration date.

Count me into the households that are disorganized due to prepping ... I've been trying to get on top of that, but lack my usual level of motivation across the board. I've kept the mess down to a dull roar, but now it is time to really get going and get the organizing done. I find it difficult to stick to any kind of schedule without the external structure of a work week outside the house. I need to get on a more regular sleep schedule, and be more disciplined about getting things done, in general.

Weather in my area includes possible 60 mph wind and 1” hail.

Thanks DM and the ac that responded as well. I can never seem to remember which one it was. Lucky everyone here isn't allergic to the penicillin based line so we stocked up on amoxicillin.
My biggest problem is getting rid of all the damn empty boxes. I have a stack of broken down boxes that need to go into a garbage barrel. Problem is the barrels get full with just the regular garbage. I might be able to get rid of 1 maybe 2 boxes every two weeks. I cringe when I open a box and there's another box inside it. ugh!!
