Almost 10 months..... but it wasn’t acknowledged in February. And March seems to normal for some.

Hmmm, not great, but maybe it's the price we have to pay to get life back to some kind of normal?

I love you!

This idea sucks for a few reasons.

One.... testing negative means jack shit if you get infected two days later.

Two... this pass is tooooo easy to twist into a social control system.

How does ignoring a virus and squashing any sort of stand against its spread ever considered a damn miracle? This clown has made fools of so many dumbasses it is a nightmare to behold. And obama did it with his minions too. Yall are all the same and dont even know it.

Explain why all of Europe is having a massive spike right now. How did Trump cause that to happen?
 Quoting: TreeBark

He didn't. The poor handling of this pandemic by government officials is not exclusive to the United States.

But he could have led the rest of the world by example. This was Donald Trump's Presidential crisis-of-the-century, and he had an opportunity to shine and prove everyone who had been putting him down for three years wrong.

He failed to take advantage of that opportunity. But he is not alone in that failure.

And honestly, I don't know that Hillary would have handled it any better or worse. I've been saying for months this is a no-win scenario. You either sacrifice the people to save the economy, or you sacrifice the economy to save the people. It's impossible to do both. I know what I would have done. Trump chose differently.
 Quoting: Riff-Raff

I'm not a fan of lockdowns, but I think the only way you could have done one successfully is to lock everyone and everything down for a month.

First step is to allow people to obtain essential supplies for the lockdown. Allow them time to receive deliveries of essential and non-essential goods if these are already planned and in progress.

Second, ensure that essential services like police, fire and ambulance and hospitals are available. But make sure that the people in these services are segregated from their families for the period of the lockdown, so they don't spread the virus to others outside of the people they come into contact with as part of their normal job duties.

Do the same with power plant, water treatment, sewage plant workers and public works crews.

The same goes for people working in retirement homes, assisted living and long-term care facilities.

No travel into or out of the country except for dire emergencies, and all travellers must stay in quarantine facilities 14 days before departure and 14 days after their return.

You would need to set up temporary living facilities for everyone who works in essential services during the lockdown. How you would do this is the $64,000 question, as the logistical issues involved would be massive, and how do you feed everyone in these facilities?

The idea of course, is to let the virus burn out on its own for lack of available hosts.

Australia and New Zealand came close to achieving this for a short while. But, as everyone knows, it only takes one person who is infected after the lockdown ends to wipe out the gains made from the lockdown.

At this stage of the game, we'd better hope and pray that the vaccines work, because with no effective vaccine, we'll never be able to return to anything approaching the normalcy that we knew before the pandemic started.

The only hope we have outside of a vaccine is that the virus mutates on its own to a vastly less lethal and dangerous form. So far, we've seen no evidence of that happening, and herd immunity to SARS-CoV-2 is no more possible than achieving herd immunity to the common cold.

jazz, I appreciate your concern, and can appreciate the points you are making.

With that being said, according to research, science, comments and analysis on this thread, and our own CDC....there is no anticipation for this to be over in the near future.

We(all of us), take some sort of risk in everything we do on a daily basis. Not in relation to the virus, just living life. Those of us who do not have the luxury of being able to have food delivered, who have to work for a living, and are responsible for the well being of others besides ourselves, have to carry on with life. And, right now that involves fellowship with the family.

We have been potentially exposed by the kids in and out of school, a local college that has never closed for a day since February, family members having necessary doctor visits, etc.

A 3 hour gathering of family will be the least of our worries. I suggest you do the same.

Again.... the fear conversation.....

Let’s review that.....

I am not fearful. Unfortunately, I take my responsibility to my littles more seriously. And that confuses a lot of folks.

My freedom lies in the fact that I am making a choice to protect my family. I am not being forced to participate.

Now let’s review the recent issue, in my community, my normal social circles have over 50% infected ... this month.... and we have lost several now, plus more on ventilators.

So while those untouched use mental gymnastics to excuse their plans as Freedumb..... I will use my freedom to make more prudent decisions and enjoy my hygge of a home.

Stay safe.

Freedumb passes will be warped..... I truly hope you don’t get that far.

Remember, 400 "Moble Crematoriums"

X 600 bodies EACH burned to ash daily.

That's 24,000 PER Day for those of you poor in Math skills.

what is 600 bodies X 400 Mobile Crematoriums

If you read the article it mentions getting tested twice per week.

The idea is intended only for temporary purposes while the vaccine is being rolled out.
 Quoting: ~Thistle~

Do you know what happens when folks get tested twice a week?

Go run those numbers. It becomes a measure of social control.

Tell me..... what are the times these testing centers will be open? And how can they test everyone, in the country, twice a week?

So remind me..... who gets the freedom?
 Quoting: CleverCreator

The government are opening new test centres weekly, at the moment they run a 12hr, 7 days a week operation.

I believe the Army may be involved as well, so they could easily set up field hospitals to meet the demand.

I wouldn't get to excited about freedom, being housebound for 8 months, not going out for fear of catching the virus isn't freedom either.

Take your pick....
 Quoting: The Gent

Again.... the fear conversation.....

 Quoting: CleverCreator

Each to their own, if it works for you that's great CC, but for the rest of us who work for a living, we need a credible system of test, trace and finally vaccine to ensure our long term freedoms are secured...

what OP lays out as a plan might have worked. i do not think it can b done legally.not all countries function like CHINA. this may be the hail marry that the world will use late in the game. in the US it will take imposing ML to make it legal.

this is where i go back and blame the "great"/sarc CDC. the rules that were sent down by the President were not enforced to stop the air travel. was that due to greed or ignorance? the CDC admitted to lying to the ppl back then.that led to distrust. as i have stated repeatedly- this is where the CDC failed by not informing the public early and properly. the CDC failed even to properly isolate the returning passengers and that with the greatest muilitary full of medics and bases. we did not utilize resources.

all returning flights could have been rerouted to military bases.never moving sick/infected ppl thru the airports. all passengers should have been in masks at least before leaving the plane. the task force should have had a top notch PR person that would use the TV and net to explain to the ppl what we were up against. and do i need to remind everyone how it took MONTHS before the "professional",highly educated,multiple-college degreed CDC figured out that isolated just an infected person and not everyone in the home was just idiotic?

the failures by the shadow agencies or govern if u prefer led to more being infected. they actually helped the virus spread instead of trying to stop it.

Hmmm, not great, but maybe it's the price we have to pay to get life back to some kind of normal?
 Quoting: The Gent

That could only ever work if thse who test negative are only allowed to do things alongside other people who have also tested negative otherwise great they go out with their negative papers and the next minute they're alongside a positive who hasnt been tested - maybe a child? and now they have it but theyre out there unknowlingly infecting everyone else.

that was then not now. can we stop it now?

the US is too mobile to stop it.workers leave and drive bout an hour both ways.ppl shop half hour or farther from their homes.we cross states freely, which would b like Europe crossing nations. add in the distrust of the govern in a normal year. how do u convince thepl not to b normal? until a neighbor or family member is infected ,ppl won't believe nothing.

now a community might have a chance. it would have to self-isolate itself. everyone stay at their own houses for 1 month. never leave your own yard. designate a team to deliver supplies to the front porch or within bout 25 ft of the front door. this team must isolate an additional 30 days more than everyone else. if anyone is sick for any reason, that house is fully isolated another month.this extends every time someone is sick. anytime someone becomes sick, the household is placed back into their own quarantine for 30days. if anyone else becomes sick in that house, the clock starts over.

nobody comes in or out of the community. supplies are placed in storage for 30days before anyone touches them.anyone going in or out must isolate a full 30 days after returning.

there are few communities that can even pull this off. it takes a very smal community with good organization and leadership to implement it. small towns in Alaska or Maine might be able to do it. after 1 year of nobody getting sick then u could claim virus free and feel safe.
