I have had a hell of a week learning my brother seems to be a covert narcassist or control freak of sorts with the estate. Its insane right now. My sisters and I are getting a lawyer. This week has been so stressful and I feel very very betrayed.

The humor in this thread and all the well wishes and friendships formed and reading all the good that people still feel and wish each other has helped pull me out of the anxiety this week. Thank you so much.

I'm not very optimistic this year. The immune system news and all the new strains and whatever else is going around (bird flu) makes me think 2020 will be waaaaaay better than 2021 and beyond.

My friend who had covid in April now has: Sepsis and has to have IV antibiotics, some weird stomach ulcer that came out of nowhere, a UTI and she just had surgery to deal with a kidney stone (never had one before, she is in her 60's)

And: David Able from the cruise ship in Japan had a melanoma and is now having TIA's.

So, this is a thing to watch for sure!

Better than me trying to explain it. It used to be a 90% death sentence, but now we start early antibiotic and fluid intervention and most people survive it. Some fully recover and some lose limbs due to the vasopressors we have to give them to keep their blood pressure up. It's a delicate game, but we've come a long way since I started nursing in 1996!

In the most basic way sepsis is an infection of the blood or blood stream. It is soooooooo much more complicated, but it Easiest to picture the blood and pathways are integral to whole body health.

Most sepsis is caused by a bacterial infection..... and the blood becomes overwhelmed with the bad guys and the immune system just makes it even worse.

Example.... little man got a bone infection (no clue how that happened), but it overwhelmed his blood stream and the stages of fever and confusion set in. He never became lethargic.... which would be a red flag for any illness.

There is so much more to sepsis, but the take away is that if you can’t control it with proper treatment.... organ damage happens quickly.

And in the cases of virally caused sepsis..... there are few ways to help.... normally it’s via things like ecmo or ventilators and Dialysis plus medically induced coma.

Right! I didn’t know how far we had come when Zeph was diagnosed. I was a puddle on the floor until his pediatrician came to the hospital.

My husband had sepsis. He stayed 17 days in 2 different ICU units. Had the ER doctor not diagnosed him immediately he would have died. His bp on admission was "dead" category.
