Dr friend says Sept will be bad with flu added to the scene. I didn't think flu really starts that early, but she thinks that will be the case.

Ref how to cope with this pandemic when SHTF for real, I have some thoughts:

1. People in my town will cooperate and take care of refugees to the best of our ability. Have seen this in hurricanes and the aftermath.

2. However, looters will be shot. They will not be missed.

A bit of inside info that few know: When Hurricane Ike hit Galveston, I was told by a local cop that about 6,000 mainly low income people ignored the evac warning. They died when the storm surge swept over the island.

The Coast Guard and the governments at the city, state, and local level cooperated to pick up the bodies in the bays and swamps.

They enforced a "no fly" zone over the area which even the news media respected. I think the media was in on it.

The pols had seen what happened to New Orleans after Katrina and did not want the stigma in Galveston. They wanted the people and businesses to return and rebuild.

Like I said, the dead were not missed. Those who had family in Galveston that were missing assumed that their relatives were among the hundred or so official victims, not 6,000.

3. The sick, lame, and lazy will be sorted out. People will refuse to help freeloaders and whiners. When they get hungry, such freeloaders will have to change their attitudes.

Ref Selco, its valuable info, but Texas is not Bosnia. I highly doubt race wars or even hot civil wars here. My neighbors who are black are cops and middle class folks who would have nothing to do with such foolishness.

As I have stated, I have faith in our people and our entrepreneurs. No need for starvation. We simply have the ag capacity and resources to prevent that.

For example, if meat is in short supply, amateur butchers will appear and slaughter/process beef cattle, horses, or whatever is required. Regs? Any regulator who is preventing the people from eating will be....told to butt out.

I cannot speak for the unfortunates in states or cities with incompetent leadership. Sorry, but they voted the incompetents in.

Oh yeah, and I do NOT expect China or Russia to invade. That's a fantasy. A single surviving aircraft carrier would make that impossible.

Bottom line: PREP for your family and some extra for charity. I stocked some foods that we don't normally eat such as pasta and sauce to donate.

Get to know your neighbors and get ready to survive in cooperation. I reject the lone wolf survival approach.

It would seem to me that the flu season would start late and be mild... all the COVID mitigation efforts almost certainly are going to put a huge dent in the spread of influenza.
