Explorers learned to suck on them from Native Americans. They can be steeped in hot water, and with a little sweetner/honey and milk/cream, it makes a truly wonderful drink on a hot day. Given that SO many people I know and hear of, including myself, had that nasty "flu" around new years, has me wondering if we were affected by the 1st payload...I really wish I had a way to be tested for this. In 77, temps were so cold, for so long, that power plants overloaded, coal froze and couldn’t be moved due to brittle tracks, and the frost went so low in the soil that water and Natural gas lines froze. Areas of the country did not see temps above zero for weeks, above freezing for more than two months. In 78, the snows were so deep that a large swath of the country had no ability to transport anything for weeks. People were just as unprepared for it then, as they are now. Yeah,Hoss. I vividly remember both and also lived in the far north. It was horrendous. On the positive side, it's unseasonably warm here and looks safe for early planting. The rocks and back porch warm up and hold some heat. It would crazy not to have a garden this year as things are so unstable. At least this is the situation and this thing is not hitting us in December. Then power outages would be fatal and we would have issues with frozen pipes bursting. Then gathering wild edibles would be improbable. If it falls according to historic pandemic patterns,getting through this means serious planning for the second wave. If the SHTF, and the contagion disapates, I'm hoping people band together. The feds and the state have totally dropped the ball. |
