I am an almost complete failure at buying cows. The only great cow I have is Sweetheart, a 2 year old Jersey. She lets me pet her and scratch her back.

A couple of weeks ago Texas wasn't seeing an increase from this surge, they were still hovering a bit over 1,000 cases per day which is where they had been at for 2-3 weeks before that... so you may have been thinking of somewhere else that I was talking about.

GA, AZ, and FL saw big drops in new cases today, I feel pretty confident the exponential growth is over. The question is how long the decline will take, and how the hospitals will keep up during that time.

As I said earlier, given the incubation lead time as well as testing and reporting lead time which is at an absolute bare minimum a week and a half, the numbers started going down before people realized there was even a problem.

I don't go off Worldometers for Texas, because there is a disconnect between the two and the state website seemes to me to be more reliable. They only update once per day, and reported about 7,000 new cases.

Worldometers totalizes the county reporting which seems to not work right in the case of Texas.

Unless I missed the announcement I don’t think anyone official is saying wave one is over.

I heard just today that there are cases in NY reappearing after they supposedly had been declared healed. Sounds like the covid just went dormant and these poor people weren’t reinfected.

The insufficient testing is still a big issue for these states where the cases are spiking. The positive rate of tests is incredibly high, implying a huge amount of undetected infections. That combined with people's general fatigue and/or indifference to the virus situation will surely mean that the infections will continue to rise for the foreseeable future. All you need to do is look to Brazil and see the terrible example there to see the same fate awaits others if they aren't doing enough to combat the virus spread.

So I have been away from here for a little while. I can tell you that my department is relaxing regulations on ppe, which I disagree with. They no longer are paying staff hazard pay and are allowing people to not wear ppe.
