Fine .... Raff. I failed semantics this morning. Not enough coupfee. I mean coffee.

Definitely a CEE.... and a mass extinction for some cultures. And definitely a bottleneck for most of humanity.

Unknown after that.

It’s ugly. But here we carry on.... until the internet is gone.

If the internet goes down, we need to have a meeting time/place/date. Like, in the smokey mountains with certain coordinates. Somewhere remote, but accessible.

Imma need y'all to get on that since I've never been there!

I'm thinking establishing a pre-determined amateur radio frequency might be a better idea, since travel might not be an option for a lot of people, and it might not even be safe.

You don't need a license to purchase an amateur radio, just to broadcast on it. However, there is an exception to that rule that says anyone may broadcast on any frequency in the event of an emergency. I think the collapse of civilization as we know it qualifies.

Any other hams out there want to chime in on this?

Would have to be the 160 meter band given our wide geographic spread, which would require a bit of know how on the part of the user aside from buying some gear.

That plus a relay system on the 2-meter band, which is much more accessible to the novice operator. You definitely would not have the distance, but if enough people are monitoring it you might be able to reach a few localized GLP members. I know there are other GLP members here in Indy, for example. If I can hit one of them using the 2-meter radio in my truck, and one of them has a 160-meter setup, then you could theoretically put together a very basic long-distance communications system.

Actually, I don't even need to hit a GLP member who has a 160-meter rig. I just have to hit *any* operator with one and ask him to relay a message on the pre-determined frequency.

So, one pre-determined frequency for 160-meter and one pre-determined frequency for 2-meter.

It most definitely would not be perfect, but it's the only system I can think of that would survive a total collapse of the global telecommunications network and national power grid.

Either that or carrier pigeons with "GLP" tattooed on their beaks.
