We know that viable viral particles can survive in the air. For them to remain viable in a pocket of air is not an unreasonable assumption. It's not like they are going to use all of that air and suffocate. So it's a matter of can they remain viable in the time between when that pocket of air is sealed and when it's unsealed. Since the highest length of viability I've seen is 72 hours, my assessment is breathing the air from one of those plastic air bags used in shipping is less dangerous than handling the exterior box it came in.

I would never say that. According to that handy-dandy chart, looks like 6 days maximum for 99.99% viral decay, and that is highly dependent on temperature and humidity. Only 12 hours for 50% viral decay. That's based on 74 degrees (F) and 50% humidity.

I still think inhaling the air from that one single air bag will not result in an infection.

I don’t totally disagree.

:)

But those that uhhhh might be on a buying spree.... should maybe be wise to just let the boxes sit. I don’t 100% trust our data on viability.

And folks should really have been paying attention that we actually have to discuss decay and half life for this virus. That is one more clue to it’s life in a lab....any lab.
