Down here it's all, "Oh, it's fine, everything is fine and we'll be past this in the spring". When you bring up anything different people shut down. I need a vacation. I don't think anyone in this thread has any illusions of being past this in the spring, except for Wordsie, and I make allowances for him due to his obvious advanced age. (Just kidding, my friend!) Their is an emotional roller coaster for every victim of any disaster. The problem here, as mentioned in an earlier post, is this disaster is unfolding so slowly that some people can't even see it, and it's an ongoing disaster with no immediate end in sight. So it's a very rough roller coaster to ride. The trick I use is to remind myself that this roller coaster is completely normal. I just need to remember that we are very fortunate to have been aware of its approach as early as we were and because of that fact, we are prepared to ride it out if the worst happens. There are millions of people who are either unwilling to prepare, or incapable of preparing for even a small disaster, let alone a global one. To borrow Uncle Doom's favorite phrase, you made it onto the Ark. Even if you just get one battery, it would still be invaluable to charge flashlights and it should still run a fridge... but battery life might only be a year of daily cycling. Ideal would be with two batteries and an extra 200w of panels, this would make up for weak solar days or heavy usage here and there. Charge controller technically won't support the extra panels but unless you live in the desert they will never output full rated capacity. And you can get a battery charger that plugs into the wall to keep it topped up until you need to use your solar panels. That's what we had on our sailboat when plugged into shore power. I don't remember what brand or specs, though. We had deep cycle marine batteries. First tell the truth, then give your opinion.... |
