Good morning, folks.

Just checking in -- not much to report. Seeing more and more stories of long-haulers in our local news. Seems to be happening to a pretty high percentage of people, versus other viruses.

I am feeling pretty down ... pretty bleak overall, about the future. I'll keep hanging on, but I don't have much hope.

Doommonkey, Although I was vegan for years, I have to tell you the thing that’s made the biggest difference for me is adding fish to my diet. Even if you don’t want to go that way having a few cases of canned wild caught salmon in your preps might be a lifesaver.

I rotate it out with other fish but the days after I eat salmon are by far my most productive and happy days. It’s pretty much what Iditarod sled dogs eat exclusively and now I know why.

I typically avoid the blasted flu shot, but this year will do one. It may, or may. not, match up with the flu strain, but if they make a decent match, will reduce the chances of having influenza weaken the body, making it easier for COVID to set up housekeeping. Or, God forbid, have both at the same time.

Back when H1N1 was the mini pandemic thing, I caught chicken pox (that's another shit show story), and H1N1 right behind. Chicken pox weakened me to the point that H1N1 said "Hey look!!! Let's squat in that empty condo and tear out the walls!".

Was flat on my back, in front of the fireplace for 10 days.

Christmas trees? Now? Ok, that's official doom, in my book.

I'm a grumpus, where holidays are concerned. I love the spirit of Christmas, but hate all the commercialism around it (and all holidays, for that matter.) I appreciate that they're important as a way of marking time, though .. and I loved Christmas as a child ... so I definitely understand why people with kids make a big deal about it.

We usually get some pine branches and do some minor decorating, and make tasty things that make the house smell good (like mulled wine or spiced cider) -- but that's about it.
 Quoting: Doommonkey

I had my mother’s nursing home room decorated as Christmas complete with an LED lit tree and all walls and windows trimmed with LED light strands year round for 8 years. She wouldn’t let me take stuff down after the holidays. The other inmates would stop at her door and look as they passed and smile. It really does cheer up down spirits. Lots of smiles in the hallway back then. :(

I really appreciate you guys, and I want you to know that. Thank you for the kind words, and offers of support. That goes both ways, and I hope you know that. You're some of the kindest and most sincere people I've ever met, and you are making it possible to hang onto some semblance of sanity throughout all this.

The idea of just letting this virus rip is pure insanity. If it were a normal flu, maybe that would make sense ... but this is so clearly an unnatural pathogen, that both kills and disables -- that it's bonkers to fail to control it. So far, there's no believable indication that herd immunity is likely to happen.

I apologize for forgetting which poster mentioned the furin cleavage site a few pages back .. but yes, that's the key (or at least a big part of the key). That's exactly what Chris Martenson has been saying all along, and it echoes what a lot of other non-mainstream-narrative virologists have said. That's what allows it to be so contagious to humans, and it appears to have been spliced out of HIV and sequenced into SARS-CoV-2. The fact that this thing either leaked out of a lab, or was released, is the elephant in the room that nobody wants to acknowledge.

Thanks, sos. I'll think about that. I take omega 3, 6, 7, and 9 oils, though they're from plant sources. I actually did venture into a few non-vegan supplements lately, because I lack certain enzymes for digestion, and my collagen needs help (thanks to having Lyme). I stil eat a plant-based diet, but am not absolutist about the supplement side of things. There's a point at which my health needs to come first.

I'm playing around with a few new supplements, to see if I can get my body in better balance. I do have actual, genetically-based clinical depression, but it's pretty well controlled medically. I think this is more a matter of doom-overload ... it's situational. I'm just sick and sad at the state of the world, and the fact that it didn't have to be this way.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76932923

You are using old paradigms. We are miserable. We have lovely discussions. And this is a bright group.

The Uses and Abuses of Optimism and Pessimism
“In a striking turnaround, science now sees optimism and pessimism not as good or bad outlooks you're born with but as mind-sets to adopt as situations demand. Sure, you could look at life purely rationally, but without optimism or pessimism, you might not accomplish very much.”

[link to www.psychologytoday.com (secure)]
 Quoting: CleverCreator

Ref optimism and pessimism, I have learned to use BOTH emotions.

If I was not an optimist, I would not have started six companies in my life. The last one has become successful enough that I am semi-retired and have a comfortable income.

However, I get depressed sometimes just like anyone else, especially when things are not going according to plan. I use those periods for self-reflection and introspection of the plans that I created during my optimistic moods.

I think of everything that can go wrong. Then, I create a plan to overcome each obstacle. Those plans and actions are important for long term survival of the company not to mention, ourselves.

It is easy to be swept up in the mood of the world or the people in your area. However, I have learned that it is best to stand back and think for yourself.

Like I have said many times, NEVER trust what others are trying to sell you. I sense that almost all on this thread are independent thinkers who are trying to survive this pandemic.

Survival of the prudent.

Oh, Man, LJS... that sounds terrible. Adult chicken pox is no joke, and neither was H1N1. We're pretty sure our household had H1N1.... all of us were really sick, for months.

I'll also be staying home with no flu shot, because I react so weirdly to vaccines. This would be one year I'd actually consider getting the flu shot, if I didn't have a history of adverse reactions. As is, I'll just continue to self-isolate, and hope for the best.

One thing I've found that has been incredibly helpful is a medicinal mushroom blend. It's called Mushroom Defense Formula, by the company Daily Nutra. A student recommended it to me a few years back, and I haven't had a cold or flu since I started taking it -- even when my entire household went down with a severe flu! I used to be that girl who got everything that went around, so the fact that I have avoided getting sick, even with sick students and housemates, says a great deal.

HNRY --- do you have a link to that article? I have read articles (reasonably reputable ones) mentioning the overlap with SARS and HIV... but don't recall seeing Ebola. I'm a "go to the source" kind of person, and would really like it if you could post a link.

Also, any info on the furin cleavage site having overlap with cobra venom and rabies ... I'd like to add that to my list of articles, too.

The oils and supplements didn’t help me and I gave each a year’s shot. The oily fish worked, finally doing better health wise.

Another thing - although I’m totally prepped up with a microgreen/lighting farm for greens and have a variety of dried seaweed I know I might be rather bad at the minutiae I will lose interest in so have added bags of powdered organic greens to my preps.

I love them. Just dump some in with my quinoa after it’s cooked and it tastes fresh. The ones I buy are low temp dried so retain their vitamins. It’s nice to have nutritious fast food on hand for times you don’t want to bother with big deal extravaganzas.

Yeah...Like you, I am hanging on, but the future is looking grim. I take comfort in the fact that despite all of this, God is still on the throne.

For some reason, science is one thing that does tend to cheer me up.

Mine, too!

It's a bit early for the trees to be on the floor. That said, retail has been pushing the shopping season back earlier every year. They might be doing it this year because, I believe, there won't be a Black Friday shopping season.

Won't be a Christmas

Who feels like

"Thanksgiving" is appropriate this year?

Maybe if you are still working ??!!??

Nobody close to you has Died ??
 Quoting: Hnry Bwmn

I think Thanksgiving is very appropriate this year, Henry, but NOT the way we've turned it into. I think we ALL need to give thanks that we've survived a horrible, dangerous year, just like the pilgrims. We need to remember, as bad as it is, we DO have reasons to give thanks.

So many things to be thankful for!!!

A true thanksgiving does not need turkey and trimmings. Exactly what TB said.....We have many reasons to give thanks!

I am convinced our world will be completely different in 30 days.

You soldier on though

I'm a big fan of the powdered greens, too. Lots of easy to digest nutrition that is quick, easy, and on demand. Like you, sos, that's in addition to fresh greens.

I need to get a tent over my indoor gardens for the winter, so I can keep my plants at an optimal temperature. We live in a loft with no heat ... and even CA can get migthty chilly at times.
Looks like freedom but it feels like death. It's something in between I guess... it's closing time.
