While you can, write down your wants, needs, desires.

If you want to stay awake late at night, tell them it’s okay, no need for schedules.

Enjoy soft music, fresh cut flowers, reminiscing with loved ones. Keep pets near - they know and want to be with you. They take their jobs very seriously .

Enjoy some yoghurt, apple juice, try to stay hydrated.

Be very clear if you plan to ‘graduate’ at home that no matter how scary it can become - for you, your caregivers- that you want to stay at home.

We’re all here for you, if not in person, in Spirit.

Remember, you do not die, you just change form.

Hospice is basically caregivers that attempt to make death as comfortable as possible.

Best thoughts to you in your transition time with
Hospice.

My family did our own hospice for our brother, Mike
(no assistance outside just our family) and I'm telling
you that the people who are actually part of the Hospice
Program must be saints. You are very lucky to have their
help and compassion.

Trying to do this on your own for a family member is
not recommended as It's a very HUGE commitment and
takes lots of energy 24-7. But if you are up to the challenge
there are also HUGE rewards.

It is an experience I'm blessed to recall now these
8 years later. He made tremendous spiritual progress
during the 5 months we cared for him and everyone was
touched by his experience. He donated everything he
had to our local church at the end--even though being
a very hard atheist most of his life. (People can change
even close to their passing.) He even reconciled with
his 2 estranged sons--we called them to MT from Michigan.
He hadn't spoken with them in decades.
