UPDATE: Our Beloved Monkey Flower Has Passed - 7 April 2020 - ljs Minkeyflower asked me to post what exactly hospice is, or at least supposed to be according to a nurse with years and years of hospice experience. Quoting: Ohio chic First. Hospice is not a death sentence. A person can be on hospice for YEARS, yes years. I believe that people need to understand hospice. Yes. It’s is a business because medicines, therapeutic devices, professional disciplines from all different areas of healthcare are required to provide the best holistic approach to someone’s life passing and that does cost money. There is a lot that goes into the “health care” of a person. I think that phrase should be replaced with “whole being care”, because that is what hospice is. Hospice treats the person rather than the disease and focuses on quality of life. Hospice surrounds the patient and family with a team consisting of professionals who not only address physical distress, but emotional and spiritual issues as well. Hospice care is patient-centered because the needs of the patient and family drive the activities of the hospice team. I know first hand from my own nursing, that people can be in hospice for many years. I have seen hospice literally help cure people that were diagnosed with things that helped defy medical odds. I have seen hospice give autonomy to people and allowing a person to enjoy their last moments instead of worrying about pain, financial affairs, etc. Hospice is paid for completely through alot of Medicare plans and it also absorbs a lot of costs that once were the patient’s responsibility now becomes the hospice’s cost. As with any business, there are good and bad providers, and it is up to people to kind of do their homework, ask friends of experiences or talk to a health care provider you trust. But nonetheless, it is a benefit that goes unused a lot and I hate to see people not utilize something that is paid for, beneficial and a chance for a quality of life based on fear or misconception. That's beautiful. I love knowing that. |

UPDATE: Our Beloved Monkey Flower Has Passed - 7 April 2020 - ljs Hello GLP Family Quoting: monkeyflower I just spoke with my hospice angel nurse. Some of my meds are on the way and will be here tomorrow. The rest of my meds will be here on Thursday. As far as right now, my hospice CNA (hygiene) angel will be here every other day and a hospice angel nurse will be here every other day as well, so I will see someone everyday. Unless or until differently I am good with that. My regular hospice angel nurse will be under self quarintine, as her son is ill and has 6 of the 7 symptoms of the virus. She will be back in 2 weeks unless she becomes ill. Please pray for them. Also those of us in hospice need of hospice angels, and I love her and I am of course worried about both she and her son. I pray for everyone effected by the virus from hell. All other hospice care I receive will, if can be, be done by phone. I met with hospice clergy by phone today, and that was nice. I hope everyone is well and I send love, light and prayers to everyone. You are all helping me stay sane in a world that doesn't seem sane at all right now. I may be back later to write more, but I really hope I can just call asleep soon. monkeyflower and kitty...Kitty is enjoying being on my lap and playing with ribbon she received by delivery today. ...Kitty and I are listening to Dire Straights, Sultans of Swing...next up, Coltrane...thanks, rewind!!! Good morning Monkeyflower I agree about the world feeling insane. I should be able to work from home today rather than my office, I pray it goes well and I may stay home. Since I'll be home and more likely to encounter the back porch possum, he has taken precautions! Until your military service has required you neutralize enemy combatants and invaders in the defense of your country, don't presume to tell us that have defended you that you don't support every shot we fired to eliminate that enemy. |

Thank you so much Ohio Chic! Nurses are my heroes and hospice nurses are my super heros! You have joined the ranks of extra super hero for taking the time to post this explanation at my request. Many people do graduate hospice is is not likely I will be among them however. I am in late stage heart and lung failure. Hospice keeps me very comfortable. Up until the nightmare virus I had hospice angels here 5 and sometimes 6 days per week. Even now, when I will not be seeing anyone in person, my hospice anger team is in contact by phone daily. My medications will arrive on time as well. I am blessed to have a loving husband who takes good care of me. I hear from family everyday. My oldest son drops by to visit as he can and brings us what he can to make our lives easier. We live right across the road (5 lane) from a store my husband can walk to easily. He wears a high quality, reusable, easy to sterilize mask and throw away rubber gloves. He also is mr. hand washer now. He is doing all he can to keep us both safe. Thank you again hospice angel. If even one person learns more about what hospice really means, what it really is I will be happy. That is why I started this thread, to help people understand more about hospice. We had hospice care for my and my husband's parents, as well as for a dear friend. Hospice to me, is a miracle. I am comfortable for the most part and I am pain free for the most part as well. (Waves to Mr. Wizard) most importantly, I am at peace. Thank you GLP family, and Ohio Chic for helping me be at peace. I can only say thank you, because I don't know more words to express the love and gratitude I feel from the bottom of my heart... monkeyflower and kitty..kitty, who sleeps on me most of the time now. . |
