Minkeyflower asked me to post what exactly hospice is, or at least supposed to be according to a nurse with years and years of hospice experience.

First. Hospice is not a death sentence. A person can be on hospice for YEARS, yes years.

I believe that people need to understand hospice.

Hospice is paid for completely through alot of Medicare plans and it also absorbs a lot of costs that once were the patient’s responsibility now becomes the hospice’s cost.

As with any business, there are good and bad providers, and it is up to people to kind of do their homework, ask friends of experiences or talk to a health care provider you trust.

But nonetheless, it is a benefit that goes unused a lot and I hate to see people not utilize something that is paid for, beneficial and a chance for a quality of life based on fear or misconception.

Thank you so much Ohio Chic!hugs

Nurses are my heroes and hospice nurses are my super heros!
You have joined the ranks of extra super hero for taking the time to post this explanation at my request. hugs

Many people do graduate hospice is is not likely I will be among them however. I am in late stage heart and lung failure.

Hospice keeps me very comfortable. Up until the nightmare virus I had hospice angels here 5 and sometimes 6 days per week. Even now, when I will not be seeing anyone in person, my hospice anger team is in contact by phone daily. My medications will arrive on time as well.

I am blessed to have a loving husband who takes good care of me. I hear from family everyday. My oldest son drops by to visit as he can and brings us what he can to make our lives easier. We live right across the road (5 lane) from a store my husband can walk to easily. He wears a high quality, reusable, easy to sterilize mask and throw away rubber gloves. He also is mr. hand washer now. He is doing all he can to keep us both safe.

Thank you again hospice angel. If even one person learns more about what hospice really means, what it really is I will be happy. That is why I started this thread, to help people understand more about hospice. We had hospice care for my and my husband's parents, as well as for a dear friend. Hospice to me, is a miracle. I am comfortable for the most part and I am pain free for the most part as well. (Waves to Mr. Wizard) most importantly, I am at peace. Thank you GLP family, and Ohio Chic for helping me be at peace. I can only say thank you, because I don't know more words to express the love and gratitude I feel from the bottom of my heart...

monkeyflower and kitty..kitty, who sleeps on me most of the time now.
