It's certainly possible - - smallpox came to the Native Americans on blankets, so......... Quoting: Eggcellently Deplorable Are you saying they secretly knew about smallpox microbes before the germ theory of disease was a thing? are you saying they didn't know about smallpox before the germ theory of disease was a thing? "The mortality of the severe form of smallpox—variola major—was very high without vaccination, up to 35% in some outbreaks.[24] A method of inducing immunity known as inoculation, insufflation or "variolation" was practiced before the development of a modern vaccine and likely occurred in Africa and China well before the practice arrived in Europe.[25] It may also have occurred in India, but this is disputed; other investigators contend the ancient Sanskrit medical texts of India do not describe these techniques.[25][26] The first clear reference to smallpox inoculation was made by the Chinese author Wan Quan (1499–1582) in his Douzhen xinfa (痘疹心法) published in 1549.[27] Inoculation for smallpox does not appear to have been widespread in China until the reign era of the Longqing Emperor (r. 1567–1572) during the Ming Dynasty.[28] In China, powdered smallpox scabs were blown up the noses of the healthy. The patients would then develop a mild case of the disease and from then on were immune to it. The technique did have a 0.5–2.0% mortality rate, but that was considerably less than the 20–30% mortality rate of the disease itself. Two reports on the Chinese practice of inoculation were received by the Royal Society in London in 1700; one by Dr. Martin Lister who received a report by an employee of the East India Company stationed in China and another by Clopton Havers.[29] According to Voltaire (1742), the Turks derived their use of inoculation from neighbouring Circassia. Voltaire does not speculate on where the Circassians derived their technique from, though he reports that the Chinese have practiced it "these hundred years".[30] '" [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] |

If you're speaking of the Fletcher Knebel book, it involved a military coup to overthrow the U.S. government. BTW: it was one of JFK's favorite reads, and he even accomodated John Frankenheimer's film crew by heading to Hyannis Port when they needed to film a riot scene outside the White House... which got out of control when they hired several non-actors to act as protestors and they started to throw real punches. The only question is whether or not Frankenheimer deliberately hired a bunch of pissed-off Republicans to square off with the diehard JFK-Democrats just to up the ante and the onscreen tensions. FYI: Rod Serling wrote the screenplay. Last Edited by GSB/LTD on 01/21/2020 11:54 AM |

It's certainly possible - - smallpox came to the Native Americans on blankets, so......... Quoting: Eggcellently Deplorable Are you saying they secretly knew about smallpox microbes before the germ theory of disease was a thing? Smallpox was known to the ancient Romans; they may not have understood the concept of microbes, but they certainly recognized horrible scarring and death when they saw it. In 580AD St. Gregory of Tours was the first to call it "Varius" - a term that is still a part of its clinical name today. In 1771 that original Latin word was changed to "Variola" to more accurately describe the many changes the virus can go through; "Varius" actually means "change". The Hindus even had a Goddess ["Sitala Mala"] assigned to it and Japan had SEVEN dieties associated directly with the disease in the 8th century AD. So, YEAH: it HAS been known -and even used as a weapon- for over a thousand years. Last Edited by GSB/LTD on 01/21/2020 01:10 PM |

GSB/LTD User ID: 8080014 United States 01/22/2020 09:13 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Pork and chicken are slaughtered and cleaned locally, frozen, shipped to China for final cutting and packaging before coming back to US. It isn't clear how much Chinese product finds its way into the chain. . This is ridiculous. While both Pork and Chicken are exported [mainly Pork], it is not then shipped back to the U.S. - the transportation costs alone would force both prices into the stratosphere and we'd NOT have bags of Chicken hindquarters selling for .59/lb or Pork Tenderloins for $1.49/lb or Hams at .79/lb.! What DOES frequently happen is that the exported meat has already been downgraded by the USDA for use in non-human consumables such as pet foods. If anybody is actually eating that sub-standard meat, it is the Chinese themselves. Last Edited by GSB/LTD on 01/22/2020 06:08 PM |
