Jeremy Konyndyk @JeremyKonyndyk · 1h Very admirable candor from @CDCDirector here: - COVID19 likely to persist beyond this season - Not at all under control - Community transmission is likely - May become endemic like seasonal flu- But we lack the kind of countermeasures we have for flu [ link to twitter.com (secure)] [ link to edition.cnn.com (secure)] Quoting: NawtyBits Jeremy Konyndyk @JeremyKonyndyk Replying to @JeremyKonyndyk and @CDCDirector In perspective: best available data suggest this virus is ~2x as transmissible as flu and ~10-20x as deadly. Community transmission could be extremely dangerous. eremy Konyndyk @JeremyKonyndyk Replying to @JeremyKonyndyk @CDCDirector and @CGDev Over the past few days there has been a distinct shift in USG messaging on COVID19 - no longer "risk to the US is low." Much more frankness on what could be coming - very constructive. Kudos.Jeremy Konyndyk @JeremyKonyndyk · 15m Replying to @JeremyKonyndyk What I still do wish they’d say more explicitly is that this is the bat-signal (pun definitely intended) to frontline health systems to begin gearing up for a coming surge. And that Congress should urgently pony up money to facilitate that.
