I really think they are going to hide data in Italy. The powers that be do not want to lockdown in any way. They don't care about deaths. The only thing they worry about is their grip on power and on their seats. They can hide data, but it will blow up in front of their eyes.

EXACTLY because they care about their power, they will lock-down.
They do not care about deaths...as long as deaths aren't too many, because when this will happen, things will go to shit REALLY FAST, and this is not good for them and their grip on power.

As many "big" italian virologists and Scientific Committee are saying, although lockdowns work on flattening the pandemic curve, they belong to political decisions at first.
I guess the difference now (from march) is finding a way to make people accept restrictions without causing uncontrollable social distress.
Btw, situation in Italy is getting weird on so many levels...
- Hospitals overwhelmed
- ICU over 3000
- Citizens in "red regions and cities" (soft lockdown) acting like it's nothing
- Media telling that we are close to reach the peak
- Researchers telling that we should be prepared for a third wave in January (same people who, during summer, stated that a second wave would never happen)
- Facebook, Twitter and YouTube filled with negationists who try to completely deny the existence of Covid-19
And, on top of that, media started also to anticipate some "big news" about a new lockdown starting from November 15th.
Although Government officially replied that no decision has been taken about a reinforced national lockdown, some say that Italian Government has no other "cards" to play than a total lockdown.
