When I was in West Africa years ago, in the 1980s, the local blacks killed a large snake.
A Chinese expatriate called Mr.Wang (a nice guy actually) who as working there bought it, stewed it for his family, and even kindly offered me a plate, which I politely declined.
Even that didnt seem too odd.
However, later when I saw some other Chinese eating large, pickled hairy spiders, from a jar.
Then only I realized something was pretty strange.....
