Re: Favorite Conan the Barbarian Quotes
Wow where to begin, I think Tulsa Dooms speech to conan was the truth of the darkside. Tulsa Doom once believed as Conan that justice was power brought by the iron/steel forged sword but having not found the essence of justice from slaying and cutting down people, he found that mind/desire manipulation was true power, to get people to use their pure will embodied by flesh Tulsa came to believe that this could surpass the strength of steel. In some ways Tulsa was right, i mean can you stop a person who would run into a steel sword willingly? Such power of will can shatter any material, the body itself becoming a weapon

Conan: You killed my mother! You killed my father, you killed my people! You took my father’s sword… ah –
[Rexor twists his arm]
Thulsa Doom: Ah. It must have been when I was younger. There was a time, boy, when I searched for steel, when steel meant more to me than gold or jewels.
Conan: The riddle… of steel.
Thulsa Doom: Yes! You know what it is, don’t you boy? Shall I tell you? It’s the least I can do. Steel isn’t strong, boy, flesh is stronger! Look around you. There, on the rocks; a beautiful girl. Come to me, my child…
(coaxes girl to jump to her death)
Thulsa Doom: That is strength, boy! That is power! What is steel compared to the hand that wields it? Look at the strength in your body, the desire in your heart, I gave you this! Such a waste. Contemplate this on the tree of woe. Crucify him!

Finally while not in the movie the book had this quote which surmises Conan simple approach to life, he realizes he is but a barbarian and that only by being such could he be true to himself, Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Cimmerian story “Queen of the Black Coast”

“In this world men struggle and suffer vainly, finding pleasure only in the bright madness of battle; dying, their souls enter a gray misty realm of clouds and icy winds, to wander cheerlessly throughout eternity.”

Bêlit shuddered. “Life, bad as it is, is better than such a destiny. What do you believe, Conan?”

He shrugged his shoulders. “I have known many gods. He who denies them is as blind as he who trusts them too deeply. I seek not beyond death. ..Let me live deep while I live; let me know the rich juices of red meat and stinging wine on my palate, the hot embrace of white arms, the mad exultation of battle when the blue blades flame and crimson, and I am content. Let teachers and priests and philosophers brood over questions of reality and illusion. I know this: if life is illusion, then I am no less an illusion, and being thus, the illusion is real to me. I live, I burn with life, I love, I slay, and am content.”

Conan will always be an epic story of the white devil neanderthal and his struggle, it would take alot to decode it since the themes/mythos was all stolen and reversed, example tulsa doom was played by the black man in order to cast the egyptian as the villain in his-story, but since it was so well done i wont get into that. In the end unless youw alk the path of Tulsa Doom, youd never understand Conan was the real villian in all of this

Very interesting interpretation. Thank you for posting it.

IT all makes sense when you realize conan searched for but was incapable of enlightenement, that is the essence of the white devil neanderthal man, its not faith but spiritual disconnection the white man suffers from, Tulsa Doom was indeed his spirtual father but conan rejected him, when tulsa tried to reach conan by putting his hand on his shoulder and welcoming him back to africa the white man chopped his head off and called him a snake.
