Even the music was utlracool. This was approximately the peak of human civilization. We'll never return to being like this.

Was it just the Internet destroying human relationships or more than that?

What happened is that these high school kids had children of their own and didn't give a shit about them. As a result, their kids turned into circus freaks.

No that was our parents. This is Gen X and many of us had young People far more intelligent than millennials parents.

And think of how many people in general, older ones included, have a soft spot in their heart for a Bernie Sanders or Elizabeth Warren. Much less the Joe Bidens/Obamas/Clintons of America.

All because too many people don't know, understand or care about the true dark nature of liberal/leftwing biases.

The internet, forced diversity, cultural Marxism, post 9/11 politics, etc

You can kiss the glory years goodbye.

Well now, you can see a tangible reset on the horizon so buck up there!

J/k This wasn't the reset I was hoping for, but considering the state of the world, maybe it's the one we deserve...

Re: Random American High School in 1989: Such vitality, happiness, vigor...What happened to us?
BlOOMERS happened.

- horrible, selfish parents

- cannibal capitalism, diminished job prospects

- media saturation

- cultural polarization.

- families broke and broken.

- SAD diet, additives, high fructose corn syrup, obesity

- glorification of alcohol and drugs in movies

I came of age at that time. Parents were raging, self-absorbed narcissists. In every job there was someone 10 to 20 years older barring the door to opportunity, characterizing all Xers as slackers or lazy. Wgeeling, dealing, cheating. The same generation fleeced their parents, treated them like crap while structuring their estates to stick it to their own kids.

Growing up me and my friends in the UK were so jealous of American High Schools...the fact they had no uniforms, everyone drove cars, partied all the time, huge sports fields, we all thought it was like the high school movies we used to watch.

we even had "Smoking Area's" ..... lol

I drove my 1977 Trans Am to school, but sometimes I would drive my 1978 Ford 150 with Gun Rack that held my 12 gage pump shot gun and 30-30 lever action rifle. I never ever had to lock my doors either. During hunting seasons our Shop Teachers (Wood, Metal and Automotive) would go hunting with us Young men after school.

I only see a lot of young people trying to self-portrait themselves and trying to grasp everyone's attention. Egoism combined with proudness are at the beginning of each downfall...

Re: Random American High School in 1989: Such vitality, happiness, vigor...What happened to us?
Many factors. 911 being a key one. I was a 90s high school kid and it seemed it was beginning to turn then. But one thing I remember different than the kids of the 80s was a removal of morality from school combined with removal of consequences. Then they pumped in education rife with narcissistic promotion. Hell kids used to carry shotguns to school. Then that stopped after a few government sanctioned school shootings.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35741584

Schools and students are being deliberately social-engineered today, versus 1989 when it was still the previous basics of education.

Or did everyone just change overnight and become laisse-faire moral relativists?

Re: Random American High School in 1989: Such vitality, happiness, vigor...What happened to us?
this was the end as far as I am concerned

Bam was born Sept. 1979 when I was still in high school

he was the product of older baby People far more intelligent than millennials parents

somehow our culture thought it would be cute to host a tv show where the son beats the living shit out of his father in ambushes and America ate it up like the mental junkfood it is

[link to www.youtube.com (secure)]

this is the generational breakdown between parents/children that the X'ers epitomize. Complete hatred of their elders.

they came home from school to watch Jerry Springer's guests beat the shit out of babydaddies with the chairs on the tv set, People's Court dysfunction, Clinton laughing about blowjobs in the 'oral office'.

We have never been able to climb out of that toilet that administration put us in. Bill and Hillary are literally the poster children for the "Ok People far more intelligent than millennialss" retorts.

These kids are fundamentally enraged and have been since elementary school. Bam should have been arrested for abuse.

Oh and for the millennial's wondering how I owned a Trans Am and a Truck. At the age of 14 I got my "Hardship Driver's License" and I worked 2 jobs 7 days a week. Veterinarian Clinic cleaning cages and feeding animals in the morning before school and in the evenings after school for $2.00 an hour (Below minimum wage) and then I sacked groceries and stocked the shelves at the local grocery store for $3.35 an hour. 7 days a week.

Can you imagine if a kid drove his truck with guns in the gun rack to school now? I remember that in my day. You’d make the news nowadays!!!!!!

oh for the love of God Trin, you censor the word Bloomer too?

The parents born in the Truman/Ike years are very different from the parents born in the Kennedy/Johnson years.

Truman/Ike kids were the Woodstock generation and rebelled, did not want to be like their WW2 era parents at all.

But Kennedy/Johnson kids were too young for Vietnam/Woodstock and basically we raised our children on the same classic rock that we grew up with, we have far less generational gap with them than the previous decade's parents.

I will agree 100 percent that Bloomer greed is coming back to bite everyone born after 1957, Illinois will go bankrupt with 300 different pension plans to feather all their nests

Social, political trends are like any other. But liberalism-leftism is analogous to a style of music, architecture, design, entertainment, fashion, cars or technology that never changes and instead keeps getting more and more ingrained.
