 Quoting: catnahalf

Yep me too, I would have been class of 1984 but I got a GED instead and joined the Army. Best move I ever made. I retired with full benefits in 2004 :-)

Totally different world/life experiences back then.

also, the internet has brought great blessings to me.

so while I also absolutely miss the old values and days, there is some wonderful shit here today!

They're was no identity politics. Cultural Marxism hadn't taken hold and everyone got along.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78423685

This!^^

Radical leftists hadn't taken over the media then, and we didn't have social media yet. They were still getting going with changing our speech, saying that we couldn't use words like handicapped, midget, etc.

They'd been around for a long time prior to this, but not in mass numbers, and after all of the revolutionary violence and bombings in the 70s, it's like the 80s was a brief break from leftist radicals. The dominant agenda items were things like wanting to stop pollution and feed the poor, things that everyone could agree on.

I only see a lot of young people trying to self-portrait themselves and trying to grasp everyone's attention. Egoism combined with proudness are at the beginning of each downfall...

Communism was in Ivy League colleges in the 1950s and filtered on down into other colleges in the next 30 years, then into high schools-elementary by 2010. It wasn't "Millennials" who did that. Nor were they the ones to set up and allow these immigration policies and business outsourcing we have now.

"Gay" was dual-use, and could be said to mean both things, simultaneously... it didn't necessarily just mean homosexual depending on context.

I still use it that way.

It's like we went to having an extreme aversion to communism- with laws against it, Mccarthy-ism and all that to the point of it permeating everything- without a violent war or anything.

Piqua High School, Piqua Ohio 1984-1988

600 students, (4 blacks, 596 whites)

No one cared about your race only your abilities and personality.

The 4 black students were actually the coolest of all. You were lucky if they were your friend.

Depressed writing this.
