I like what you're saying here. It's no longer OK to be awesome.
 Quoting: Cryptotard_Sticky

The "Uncool" kids still had their own group and they thought they were pretty cool among themselves.

You had the "Jocks" who were all about sports.
The "Heads" who were the stoners, smokers, leather jacket types.
The "Geeks" who were the brainiac book worms, chess clubbers.
The "Rockers" who were into music, probably in a band.
There really was something for anyone and a lot of groups had crossover.

You could be a leather jacket stoner and be in a band with a geek, or a jock and work on your car with the motor heads.

Now, all these traits, groups etc. are being suppressed because of the PC victim hood culture.

Cry bullies rule the day now.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77517484

This is really familiar:1970's We had " Jocks; Stoners; and gearheads";
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77376498

Same. We had jocks, stoners, nerds/geeks, motorheads, preps, surfers, and dare I say it, "beaners" aka "lowriders". (This was in SoCal.)
 Quoting: gnostic9

Sure, different regions of the country had groups that other didn't and visa versa.

I'm sure in the heartland you had the farm boys, on the coast you had surfer dudes, up north you'd have some ski bums, etc etc.

A lot of things that most of us would consider "Fun" just do not exist now, or are out of reach for most kids and young people.

Think of the way that various parents of young children in today's America think nothing of taking their kids to a storybook reading at the local library---a reading that's presented by a transsexual, possibly a flaming one at that.

Such parents do that for what reason?

Doesn't matter. That their judgment is that poor is all anyone needs to know.

People who are merely one step away from creating a society where pedophilia is normalized.

Ancient Greek and Roman societies had a lot of their elite involved in homo-, bisexuality and pedophilia too.

What happened is that these high school kids had children of their own and didn't give a shit about them. As a result, their kids turned into circus freaks.

BS. I am these kids, class of '85. My son is now 14 and he's more conservative than 99.99% of the people here.

This is a good point Scrump. That album, and the media circus that followed did have a lasting effect on society as a whole. Parlay that with the Rodney King beatings in LA right at the same time. Thug mentality was born, and glorified.

Great sign of how society is utterly degraded today.

I think if back in the 80s that word got out that there was a "transvestite" at the library, a large crowd probably would've formed. Not necessarily torches and pitchforks, mind you, but people would gather to see something so freaky, and wonder what the hell was going on, and some would've been outraged.

Now, trans people reading to children in public libraries is an international thing, which is of course part of an agenda.

I think fat became sexy as part of the hip-hop cultural influence, along with glorifying crime, anti-police sentiment, "fashion" and of course, the dumbing down of the English language where the sub-literate introduce the new slang and all the dumb kids adopt it. Remember "phat" being a good thing?

Now, idiots use "thot" which is an acronym for "that hoe over there" which makes no sense at all in common usage. (One shouldn't say "that thot" because it's redundant, for one minor example.)

Re: Random American High School in 1989: Such vitality, happiness, vigor...What happened to us?
Well tere is something to this OP, you might be right. I grew up in the Netherlands and attended an High School that was modeled after the American High Schools you usually will see in the average town. And that was in the early 90's. We had it all, but we also had the computer and the internet that was introduced to us. I remember making my first websites around 1994 / 1995 (after High School) and that is exactly where things started to change for the worst. Even the music died on us... It actually is something I think about quite a lot... Time flies when you're having fun I guess, I just did not know that time also swallows certain liberties and takes our freedom away over time... What the actual fuck has happened?

Blissful ignorance is the best gift that adults can give to their kids.

Fear, insecurity and trauma stunts emotional growth and development.
