Their time was also awesome to them. Nothing wrong with that.

Question is, will adults 30 years from now look back and say their time was awesome.

The change between then and now was...alarming, to say the least...

Was kind of sad actually!

It was weird seeing people not familiar with having a camera in their face, no one on cell phones, kids were for the most part willing and ABLE to engage in socialization, everyone looked better, etc.

I mean the list could probably go on for like 10 pages how much better shit was then compared to now lol.

Re: Random American High School in 1989: Such vitality, happiness, vigor...What happened to us?
What happened? 4 years of George H.W. Bush, 8 years of Bill Clinton, 8 years of George W. Bush, and 8 years of Obama. The leftist Bush/Clinton crime cabal has taken its toll on America, as well as youthful hopefulness, exuberance, and naivety, forever changing the face of America, whose future is now under direct attack by the criminal elements set into place and unaffectionately known by people as the "deep state," whose allegiance seems to be toward an amalgam view of Soviet-style and Chinese-style totalitarianism, where the civil society represented in such older videos is only a facade, geared toward manipulating the masses to accept the control mechanisms that have been carefully put into place by them.

Unfortunately, these things were in existence and warned about by others during the time represented in the video. However, too many people were concerned about the trivial and unimportant, were bought off by economics that were being manipulated to keep them complacent at that time, so that the pieces good continue to be put into place. The people ignored the warning signs to their own detriment, and at the peril of future generations.

The reality is that society was being manipulated and controlled by the dark elements at the time depicted in the video, and the sophistication needed to combat the growing thread posed by those doing the manipulating may not have existed, or was being put toward vain and unimportant pursuits, because that is what the elite wanted and dictated, while pop culture was used to help spread the necessary message, in order to get us to where we are today.

Maybe they'll have many awesome things to look back on.

I'm sure older people thought the 80s was completely degenerate, but not knowing what came before, I loved it.

The same could be true for younger people today not having known a time before cell phones, social media, and cultural marxism.

There's a bit of nostalgia any generation has as it looks back to its youth.

In 2020, things like cell phones, laptops and wide-screen monitors have features that people over 10 to 20 years ago could have only dreamed about. But the increasingly hard-bitten nature of today's culture, with a much more no-holds-barred, no-filter format of TV shows, movies, media, academia corporations/governments in 2020 go way beyond anything in the past, whether 1920s, 1940s, 1960s, 1970s, 1980s America.

President Trump admittedly isn't a mush-mouth when it comes to Miss-Manners etiquette. But much of that has been forced on him by the liberal dynamics and leftwing people throughout today's America.

If he were like a Ronald Reagan in a US of 2020, he'd be eaten alive.

Today I would prolly be considered super fit.

Re: Random American High School in 1989: Such vitality, happiness, vigor...What happened to us?
If you want opinions, being born early 60's I remember the 70's as the best. The 60's were scary as a kid, the Vietnam body count being the first thing talked about every evening on the news [which often included people killed here in the United States over that war]. The first memory I have is of Kennedy's funeral on the tv...and the effect it had on people deeply affected my perception of the world.
As for the 70's, things were hard because OPEC still controlled the flow of oil in the middle east, but the government was afraid of the people and that is how it should be.
As a 11 yo child I had more responsibility than a 20 yo is allowed today. At 13 you could take a safety course that allowed you to buy ammunition, and carry a rifle down the street to go hunting or shooting(even in NY state!).

Dope dogs, "asset forfieture" and police violence would have been met with violent resistance....
What you are all lamenting basically is the loss of freedom and individuality, and it is all on you because you're all chickenshits who let the perverted scoutmaster scare you into his tent with tales of vicious wolves about..

Re: Random American High School in 1989: Such vitality, happiness, vigor...What happened to us?
This was Gen Xers.

There were already serious problems happening in our society and culture that were already pulling us down. A big one was divorced parents. With the baby People far more intelligent than millennialss especially the youngest baby People far more intelligent than millennials we began to experience divorce and that increased with each generation. But now I believe divorce is declining, but not because more people are staying married, but because people aren't getting married at all.

The other thing that weighed heavily on each and every generation was substance abuse.

I believe two main things have changed that effected the millennials that are very different from prior generations and that is the internet and The National Childhood Vaccine Injury Act (NCVIA) of 1986. The internet has sicken our minds and the increase in vaccines is destroying our children's health.

OP, it was about this time when the communist powers that be decided that being young and white, (especially male), was a problem. Remember that the Soviet Union was in the thoes of collapse and the Reagan economy was booming. The attack on these young people was deliberate, purposeful and coordinated. Much of it manifested itself through attacks on pop culture, especially music, via MTV and similar outlets.

We quickly went from this being the face of the young, white male, the celebration of being, virile, happy and optomistic:

(Just imagine being a young person at this concert, the vibe and positive energy that must have flowed through the veins of the crowd).

To this, the neurotic , pessimistic misfit being the face of the young white male, the future dark, dismal and scary.

At the same time, the worst element of the black ghetto culture was being injected into the arm of the white, suburban mainstream.

Culminating in this, the cultural coup de gras of the happy, optomistic, young, white male having fun in life and the pessimistic, troubled, malcontent taking over:

This was just the pop culture musical example but the same phenomenon can be followed through any pop culture mechanism of the mid to late 1980. It was thoroughly political in nature and has given rise to the modern American radical left as a relevant socio-political force. The kids in the OP video would have laughed all of today's PC garbage out of existence.

Yup I was a sophomore in really was the best of the best good god I miss it so much
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified."
