What is being stressed here is that the people of Ukraine should have been able to keep their duly elected President, if they had desired to do so.

That is not what happened.

By helping to oust the duly elected President of Ukraine at that time who was Viktor Yanukovych, the Obama-Biden US State Dept only had to put in a temporary President and then a few months later support the election of their hand-picked corrupt Ukrainian oligarch, Petro Poroshenko.

This would greatly improve their ability to money launder through Burisma.

Ms. Nuland was so respectful when discussing her preferred choice, Mr. Arseniy Yatsenyuk, that she simply referred to him, when speaking on the phone to the US Ambassador in Ukraine, as "Yats".

In the end, it was Mr Arseniy Yatsenyuk who was put into the office of President in Ukraine on an unelected and interim basis.

It is likely that Mr. Arseniy Yatsenyuk is the man who was chosen to be put in as a temporary President BECAUSE he would be the one most easily beaten in a future, but soon, formal election when he would be pitted against the actually desired final choice for Ukraine President which is the well known highly corrupt Ukraine oligarch named Victor Porshenko.

And, indeed, a mere few months later it was Porshenko who was elected and began to serve as President of Ukraine, and in an imaginably corruption-compliant manner, until the Spring of 2019, nearly a full 5 years later.

Well...that WAS a very successful coup now wasn't it.

I.M.F. Prepares $18 Billion in Loans for Ukraine

LONDON — After three weeks of urgent negotiations with the interim government of Ukraine and in an atmosphere of great power competition, the International Monetary Fund announced on Thursday an agreement to provide up to $18 billion in loans over two years to prevent the country’s default.

The agreement, announced in Kiev, the Ukrainian capital, will hinge on the country taking steps to let the value of its currency float downward, to cut corruption and red tape, and, crucially, to reduce huge state subsidies for the consumption of natural gas.

The energy subsidies alone represent roughly 8 percent of Ukraine’s gross domestic product, and Russia has said that it intends to raise on April 1 the price of natural gas to Ukraine, which is largely dependent on Russian supplies and which already owes the Russian energy company Gazprom well over $1 billion.

The deal, which is subject to the approval of the fund’s board next month, is intended to get the new government over a big hurdle of coming debt obligations when its hard-currency accounts have been sharply diminished by months of unrest that led to the overthrow of former President Viktor F. Yanukovych.
