does anyone recommend a specific brand?

I’ve just been asked by my healthcare employer to update pandemic plans (staff education materials specifically ) that were done in 2009 for H1N1.
I’m in Florida.
We do primarily home care with some inpatient presence. The staff education is aimed at instructing patients and their caregivers in generic principles of disease prevention.
Also for staff basic regurgitation of s/s of CoVid 19 from CDC and reporting tree.

In the last week or so I've heard of two people close to me and close to the family that randomly dropped dead. Totally unexpected. Males, between the ages of 25 to 45.

Families said they both had flu-like symptoms the week prior, and got better, then just dropped dead. Doctors stated cardiac arrest for both cases (yet they did not have a history of cardiac issues).

I work in a large warehouse in California that deals with importing goods to all sorts of vendors (give you a hint, it rhymes with Bamazon) and work has already been slowing down. Hardly anything coming in, hardly any trailers to unload or freight to ship out. This shit is real folks, the ripple effects are happening in real time.

I work for a packaging manufacturer, everything folding carton we manufacture at home but all our sturdy rigid boxes come from China and we have no word when we’re getting another round of supplies.

I went to Best Buy the other day and noticed some shelves are thinning out, I talked to one of the guys and he said they have plenty of TVs as those are all made a year out in advance but the big companies like Sony and Samsung have shuttered their distribution warehouses?

It’s already been happening a few weeks now and picking up pace.

An Audi plant in Belgium suddenly stopped producing because of broken supply lines, supposedly this "has nothing to do with the virus" and they "don't wish to comment on the real reason behind it" ... Riiiight, riiiiiiiight.

I talked with an IT operations manager for a major Australian bank this evening, they are finding it near impossible to replenish supplies of a range of essential consumables and spare IT inventory items. The China pipeline has stopped. I'd say we are weeks away from a cliff.

Had another conversation regarding supply chains from China. As of now, there are not problems...but we discussed 2 items. 1. The supply chain for these products from China is about 30-60 days. Add in a little more inventory for some items and you may push this to 80-90 days. 2. For Chinese NY, they built up inventory in advance. So, we added another 10 days of extra supplies to this (even though the plan would have been to absorb these stocks during CNY). But, with diminished demand in China this may offset some.

So, for us, the problems will probably start to be 'felt' in the 60-80 day range. We will see it more in the maritime shipping first before we see it in our supply chains.

We also have had a few majors contact us regarding additional supplies to help mitigate the Chinese suppliers. As of now, only 1 has placed additional orders. Unlucky for us though, we are already at max capacity for our product production so there is little room to help mitigate the failures.....thanks to the Corporate Procurement groups for beating everyone down on price to match a communist regimes production capabilities.

Overall. This is a train wreck. It is going to happen unless China is fully back to work in 10-15 days. I don't think it will be a catastrophe (yet) in the US yet...but there will be impacts and longer it goes on the worst the impacts will be.

So a family member is a microbiologist in SoCal.

When asked about their opinion on the virus they echoed what has been stated on Glp from the beginning.

They said the virus has the potential to exponentially explode. It has to be man made/engineered (just from reading data that is already out here). The statements and public data from WHO and CDC do not make sense or add up....in other words don’t believe them, keep your eye on Twitter.

The statements from cdc regarding washing hands rather than using disposable gloves they understood from the standpoint of - yes that person will transfer the germs from surface to surface for others. But as far as self preservation gloves are best as a reminder do not touch your face.

They said again it sounds as if (from the data they released) that the droplets are so fine that yes people would need a full face respirator mask.

Everything most here have said - is right on target.

They are in a larger city than I am, and made sure that I gather supplies and food for them since this is where they will head when it is time.

They also said that something happened within a couple of weeks ago that in all these years has never happened. A lab from an ER at a smaller area - I can’t name - called their lab asking for a specific flu test for a patient in the ER. Our family member asked what are you talking about, what specific test...the other lab was being evasive, and said I will call back. Well every ER, doc office and lab in the USA knew at that point only the cdc was testing for Wuhan flu. Well that ER lab calls back and said the physician was asking for a specific strain and how they should collect it etc. Our family member said - what are you talking about we don’t test Wuhan if that’s what you mean and we don’t test for one specific strain. They hung up since this lab is incredibly busy.

So one can guess that the smaller ER had a person showing symptoms didn’t want to get the cdc involved or was doing this person a favor by not getting anyone else involved and wanted to test for a specific strain to rule in or out Wuhan.

The thing is.....in the agriculture areas of California - the Chinese are the largest buyer of the top quality produce here (not many people know this and it is not widely spoken about) - be it almonds, avocados or whatever. They come here and literally speak better Spanish than the Mexican pickers. The Chinese deal with the grove foreman as they work out the financial deal for certain harvests. Of course the grove foremen, deal with the pickers, supervisors and owners etc.

Look for this Virus to really catch on via the route of Mexican harvesting.

Also regarding the lab call about flu from the smaller ER. I cannot say this strongly enough - many native casinos, small and large here, are packed with Chinese that do nothing but sit and spend all day and night - do not go to any casino here....period.

Lastly like most here mentioned. And confiremed by the family member. Bleach is going to be the biggest helper for us folk. Remember it does expire. But the microbiologist said buy the powered type as well...I can’t recall exactly but I think the ratio is 1:10 to equal Clorox. And I think it has an expiration date - but would guess it is longer than liquid.

If I get more info from them I will try to post.

We have made progress but not at a respectable rate of speed.

Thankfully, many countries have begun getting serious about the situation present. It demands attention and the virus is respectable and efficient in its job.

Iran, ironically, will be the most open due to sanctions and their ability to fight this.

They will be very open in the coming week / week and half due to the havoc this brings economically, honesty is going to bring them help, as they need it. They dont have the banking, or infrastructure to handle this alone, so I would follow what they say.

The entire world, by March 1st will be paying full attention, like I said in week 1 of February.

Lockdown is harmful to moral, I would advise against to be frank. Sunlight, happiness and overall moral has a major impact on health.

Dont deprive yourself of the basics of life due to fear. Practice extreme hygiene and the biggest, yet smallest thing, dont touch your face.

I had to bring my dad to the VA yesterday because of a hernia. Heading back I decided I'd finish my stock Up of seed starter and a few gardening items. We stopped and the chipotle next door was packed with national guard. Probably 30 trucks and 100+ guys. I have a cousin in and I know it isn't their training weekend and it was Thursday early afternoon. After buying my stuff I saw them all heading towards mpls.

This was 20 miles or so outside mpls downtown in a smaller suburb along the interstate. Just an fyi.

A family member of mine who lives in the FL panhandle area took her child to the ER 2 weeks ago and the first thing they were asked was if they had recently traveled outside of the country or had any reason to believe they may have contracted coronavirus. That was about a week after I started sounding the alarm to my close family and friends who were not yet taking this seriously. It scared that family member enough that she is now making preps as well.

This is not a big deal of a post I just wanted to let you know how it went. While I was there someone was saying they thought they had Corona Virus so I added in bold at the bottom of the story too.

So I went in a 2:04pm in a B.C hospital near Vancouver

i showed up coughing a lot and walked to the check in stand

As soon as I showed up they asked me “have you been outside of the country in the past month” and they gave me a mask.

I told them “no but my girlfriends aunt who is also really sick just flew from New Zealand and I’ve also drove a car that had someone who had been to China on the 3rd.” I then add “that’s not why I’m here though, I have asthma and I can’t catch my breath”

They ask: but you haven’t been to China right?

I then say: no I haven’t.

They ask: throwing up or fever

I then say: no but that aunt and another aunt are and I had a fever yesterday

They ask: but you haven’t

I say: no

They: How long have you had the flu?

Me: 4 days

They then sat me down in the waiting area.

2:14pm: the same person realized I was still coughing a lot and sat me in a check in room and gave me a nebulizer (it’s a mask you wear for about 5 minutes and it’s full of steroids to open your airways and help longs)

As she was doing it she asked “and you haven’t been to india either right?”

I said “no”

My heart rate got tested and blood pressure.

The alarm went off as I had a 152 but this was because I had a nebulizer. (Increases your heart rate a lot)

She told me to try and calm down as much as possible or I won’t be able to leave.

This was a mistake on their part as they should have taken my heart rate before hand.

2:34 it gets checked again and the alarm goes off again. She told me she’s going to have to bring down a specialist.

2:37 I get hooked up the a heart rate machine

They don’t tell me the results and she leaves

2:39 they tell me to sit down in the halls on a chair and a nurse will be with me soon

3:10 someone guides me to a CATZ room and I’m finally told a little of what’s going on.

“They’re going to take a x ray of your chest”

3:19 my name is called to the x ray room

They take 2. One of my front, one of my side.

3:24 I leave that room.

3:33 I get my blood pressure and heart rate done again.

3:36 right after they got me to do my blood work

I then wait in the CATZ waiting room again

4:22 I’m guided too a new hall with 7 other to wait for a doctor

5:04 i hear two nurses laughing and talking about how someone came in claiming they have the corona virus. They were clearly joking around and making fun of it.

5:12 I finally see the doctor who says my results.

My lungs came back great

My heart rate is still a little high (I think 112?)

No fever

Blood work came back good.

Slight wheezing in my lower lungs.

He said “we think you have some kind of virus and that’s what’s effecting your asthma to make it hard to breath”

Then he told me what I’d be put on. He said a oral lung steroid that would last 24 hours. This was the strengthen my lungs. He said my blue puffer. “Salbutamol Sulfate Inhale Aerosol” 2 puffs every 4 hours, 4 puffs if needed. If that didn’t work come back to the hospital. This helps open my air ways. Then he told me to keep taking the puffer I already had (Beclometasone) this is a lung steroid to open my lungs. Normal asthma stuff although, I never had this lung steroid before.

(I should add I don’t have bad asthma. Only when I get the flu is when my asthma kicks in. I go to the ER every time I’m sick to get a ‘mask’. I get sick once or twice a year)

He asked if I was spitting up flem from my lungs, I said yes. Then he said okay, I’ll get the nurse to bring your meds.

as I’m waiting for my meds the next person goes into the room

Doc: so you say you have corona virus?

Person: I mean I don’t think so but my wife is worried

Doc: have you been to India or China in the past month?

Person : Yeah, India last week

Doc: do you find it hard to breath?

P: a little

D: do you have a sore throat?

P: no

D: are you coughing?

P: no

5:24 My meds then arrived. Horrible timing.

They watch me take my one time dose of oral steroids. It was 2 and a half pills. And she makes me take 5 puffs of my blue puffer. And then I’m sent free.

i noticed the doctor started talking a lot quieter to the point where I might have not even known they were in the room. So I have no clue what else was asked

And I left. Things they didn’t ask that I think they should have was if I had a headache, if I was drowsy. Stuff like that.

I then drove home but I can’t lie I shouldn’t have been driving. I was so dizzy and my muscles were so weak I even found it hard to shift gears. My GF was with me otherwise I wouldn’t have drove tbh. I was staying in my lane so that was the main part. (It only takes me 7 minutes to drive home)

Again not a big deal but they didn’t tell me anything that was going on. I couldn’t tell if they tested me for Corona Virus.

Do you think they did?

Missed this thread before posting elsewhere, looks like this is the appropriate place.

Been lurking for a while, made an account to post since it might be relevant.

To keep it brief, I went to a local clinic last week and had a friendly conversation with the nurse while we were in the exam room waiting on the doctor. Discussed mutual concern about the C-virus. I was hoping for some insight as to any instructions or preparations they'd been given. There wasn't anything more than what you'd expect.

I went back for a follow up this week, Wed.
Happened to talk to the same nurse. She said they had a patient come in sick that had been previously quarantined and cleared for the virus. She said they didn't let him get any farther than the lobby before asking him to leave.
I reminded her how the test they're using are unreliable and that I hope they thoroughly disinfected the lobby... the look on her face told me they probably hadn't. No personnel were wearing any kind of protective equipment for their benefit or their patients.

This was in southeast Michigan.

Just thought I should let someone know outside my immediate circle, who mostly think I'm overreacting to the thing to begin with.
