Most have sugar-salt-pepper packets waiting for you. After you have paid for your order- ask for honey packets-jelly packets-be nice, get however many they are willing to give. Always get your order to go, after they hand you your bag, it is easy to walk over and get a few napkins and condiments. Get home, wash the condiment packages- salt and pepper packets usually cannot be washed. You must acquire zip lock bags and empty the contents into the bags for storage and convenience. Zip lock backs are most easily stored and transported inside your bug out bags. |

Food dehydrator...this takes electricity and since it's a heating element, you need utility power, solar probably wont' cut it. I use the Excalibur 9 tray and it works great, it runs about $150. Quoting: Me 2837766 The more salt supplies you have, the longer you can store meat. You will eat things, you never thought you would! Now that's sensible, I didn't think of that. There's loads of fresh mackeral that the fishermen sell. I could salt those. As for growing anything, or drying any food in the sun, forget it. The climate here's so damp and cold it's okay for spuds and carrots but not much else, unless I get a greenhouse, but I can't afford one right now. Do some research on what temps and timing to use for the type of food you want to dry. A baking pan with a heat resistant rack is handy to have. Allows heat and air to circulate better than just laying item on the pan. Have fun. It's rewarding to preserve your own foods. |

It doesn't take a virus or a quarantine...all it takes is for the masses to panic, and the store shelves will be empty in hours! Go out TODAY and buy extra of what you usually use (food, pet food, paper towels, TP, soap, tooth paste, paper plates, etc) so you have the option of locking yourself inside! And you will recoup the costs because it's all shit you would buy anyway. Don't forget to fill some containers with water! And fill your gas tank! That's something to think about.... The hand sanitizers are gone and minimal stock of flu/cold related meds....same with natural supplements and vitamins... I just spent $400 on groceries....going to costco or BJ to load up on bulk items Tuesday....its not weird "prep" foods....just stuff I normally eat anyway....so if its a nothingburger, I won't have to shop for a couple months.... |

Epic Beard Guy User ID: 76783046 United States 02/08/2020 01:04 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Dehydrators are OK, but freeze driers are way better. The drawback, of course, is money. Freeze driers are expensive, but the veggies taste the same as when they were fresh. I dehydrate a lot of apples, because I have apple trees. The dehydrated apple chips are great, especially with a little cinnamon. You are running out of time, maybe you should be loading up on canned and dry goods at this point. If money is tight, consider animal feed. Rolled oats and sweet mix can be boiled into a nutritious cereal. It's not approved for human consumption, but it beat starving. Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. "America is at that awkward stage. It's too late to work within the system, but too early to shoot the bastards." -- Claire Wolfe |

You can make pie, bread and roast the seeds and they are huge and store well Quoting: Anonymous Coward 78012169 Right now the best way to prepare is gather supplies and food. To late for canning and drying. You do that while in social isolation. The çloser you are to major hubs the less. Time you have. The virus has scattered every where. Boost your immune system. Natural antivirals. Social distancing. In 1918 a neighbor would cook for a family stricken and leave the food on the porch, yell out then leave. Whoever could went and brought the food in. Social distancing. |
