no clue about pesticides, best thing for everyone is top use
"deterrents" not harsh chems.

for fertilizer i can reccomend fox farms. their bloom and guano stuff is available on amazon. i use it to grow veggies and weed. its organic n shit. they make it near my house....

fox farms. big bloom, tiger bloom, grow big.

thanks so much! Never heard of fox farms

You would not have heard of fox arms if you are actually in Canada because we are not allowed to import the soil. The guy bought up all of these pretty much defunct cement mixing trucks and does a large scale tumbler compost system. 'Too bioactive' to ship to Canada...idiots...

I wonder if its necessary to grow our food using manure and other animal feces/blood. In a way its disgusting. Aren't there other sources of nitrogen that would be just as good as a fertilizer?

Are you a farmer?
 Quoting: StrongLion

I bought some land and I'm building a perma-home there. Pretty close to get fully independent in there. In one or two years, I'll move there and never come back.
 Quoting: MaybeTrollingUAgain

that is awesome. So you're into permaculture?
 Quoting: StrongLion

Totally! Allow me to describe what I got done already:
The land is around 10 acres. Parts of plain land, parts with some elevations. Lots of native Atlantic forest.
There is a medium sized creek. From it, I dug a "trench" canalizing the water to a small hydro generator. It generates around 3Kwa/hour, more than enough for like 4 regular houses. I still need to make some safety circuits and a better inverter, but its already usable. The river runs the whole year with not much of a difference in the flow, so power is guaranteed.
I built 6 greenhouses 6x30 meters. Inside them, still building aquaponics systems. This part needs a lot of work yet, but I'll get there, I got only one working fully.
I raise, chickens and bought a miniature cow that, believe it or not, produces milk. Around 1 and a half gallon/day, but I don't need more than that. There's also a small pond where the ducks and geese love to hang out and I got some tilapia growing in there.
There is plenty of land for crops. For now, I got cassava, corn and sugar cane growing in permaculture(harvest some, plant it back).
Lots(really LOTS) of fruit trees. I could go live there right now if I really wanted or needed and I would be somewhat ok, but I still need some money to finish the barn, build bigger chicken coup, buy a bigger tractor and its implements, plain some more land for rice crops and various tools/machinery.

As soon as I got it all, you'll not be seeing me here so much(maybe never again, which some will like)

Use with caution, it is very hot. I used to sell it from my rabbit barn. One guy over did it, it turned the soil blue and killed every weed and everything. Was good soil a few years later.

I dilute Epsom Salt and water in a sprayer. My grandmother always used it as a fertilizer. I also use fish emulsion to fertilize.

I haven't yet found anything to deter deer.

One thing is for sure, human remains are not acceptable in any form even sluge form.
The other one is humans excrement and other sewage.

Keeping these biowaste materials out of agriculture is the best thing we could do to prevent sickness and other ill affects from it.

Yes. think of their (Fox Fire) as sourdough starters for all sorts of uniQue soils. All really good soils and you just get the bonus of using them as starters. A very fine person (I only tell stories now and then) is in charge of making the soils there. Yoy just buy it and mimic it at home.

I make fermented garden tea. Lots of ways to make it. I use ground up vegetable matter, some chicken and deer droppings, ground fish scraps, some urine, a bit of sugar, some form of grain scraps, some compost and keep it warm, pouring from bucket to bucket to keep full of air and bubbles for a few days to a week. Dilute with water for feeding the soil. Leave out the fish, urine and droppings to make a well diluted leaf wash.

Your plants will grow like crazy.

deer hate eggs. Blend up a half a dozen and mix it with twice as much warm water. spray it around your garden, down the rows etc etc. I don't use it directly on any plants i expect to eat. it smells like death to them. replenish after a hard rain. Ive used it for MANY years now and I garden extensively.

Thank you, I have not tried that yet. They do not like bones, but the bones do not last long other things drag them off. Human urine does not deter my deer, neither does used cat litter, not even bob cat spray.

A good 7 1/2 ft fence with an elc wire or two helps.
