Good question. Probably person 3 or it could be person 7. Will need to think about this quandary for a few days or maybe for a year or two.

Blame the idiot that sets the hot water tank on parboil.

It's BS anyway because there's not enough hot water stored in the faucet to burn anything. Nobody runs cold water to cool off the faucet after using hot water, nobody.

You’re the one using the faucet, and they’re your hands, so it’s your responsibility to check to make sure it’s in proper working order before using it, just like with any tool.

If a woman falls into a toilet because she didn’t check the seat, is it the man’s fault? No, it’s your ass, you have to watch out for it yourself!

This situation is not possible, and is likely public perception data mining for the next brainwash.

There is no faucet arrangement anywhere in the world that would do this without clearly indicating where the water temp is set. Even on the single handle hot/cold faucets. left hot, right cold.

Re: Kitchen sink faucet use question — who is to blame: Person 1 or Person 2?
Person 1 uses the kitchen sink faucet on hot water. When done, he closes the faucet. He does NOT turn it to cold water before shutting off.

Person 2 arrives a few minutes later, turns the faucet on, and puts his hands immediately underneath the water, and ends up burning himself.

Is Person 1 to blame for not turning the water to cold first before shutting the faucet, or is Person 2 to blame for not waiting a moment before using the water?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75686950

Person 2 is responsible to set the water he/she wants, but if you're living with idiots, you might be kind and set it back for the others to use. It's kind of like lowering the toilet seat.

If you have kids, you should lower the tank temp. I used to keep it cranked up, until my youngest got burned in the shower. That was 30 years ago and it's never been a problem with the lower temp setting.

Cost me about $16 month to heat water. Next time around I'm going with a tankless heater.

You should NOT have to run cold water when you're done-that just wastes water.

Person 2 should notice that the faucet is turned to HOT from the last person so should be carefull.

Faucets are different, but hot water will remain where the hot and cold meet, so maybe just don't rush in behind the last person to exit or be aware the last person the take a shit, hopefully, used the hot water to wash his hands...
