Do they come with a warranty? Have them professionally installed. If done poorly they will crack the seals. |

DO NOT buy "Low-E glass", though it does keep your house cooler, it will turn your house into a dungeon, no matter how big your windows are. Also, make damn good and sure the inside dimensions match the outside dimensions or the moronic "expert" will measure ONLY the outside and the shit won't fit. Been there, done that, and worse? I GAVE THE IDIOT THE RIGHT DIMENSIONS AND HE "CORRECTED ME" AND THEN FORCED ME TO EAT HIS MISTAKE. Anyway, get the brightest non reflective non tinted glass you possibly can or your life will suck. |

I really have these in my residence. :DOCSRBAFFLED::redblueLED::DONTBEAPANDEMICS: Only you can stop the fake pandemic for yourself, no one will ever tell you the pandemic is over. It's time to WIN. |

They are only available in standard sizes tho. I redid my custom home after 35 years and researched then all. It came down to ANDERSON/MARVIN. Patio doors too........... |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 76579783 Mexico 02/15/2020 01:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Anderson makes the world's finest windows, and you can probably still get them in wood. There are downsides to wood however, - they'll jam sometimes but I grew up with Anderson wood windows and they were great. If Anderson makes vinyl, that would be the one. Anyone recommending aluminum is probably from a zone where only single pane glass is needed and does not realize that aluminum will result in a six inch long horizontal icicle in any state that is sort of central and borders Canada. |

Avoid the Low-E glass unless you hate seeing the outdoors. Might as well not have a window at all if your use Low-E... Pella is OK. Peachtree is a step down. Avoid Jeld-wen. It actually makes a big difference if you live up North where it gets below zero on a regular winter day - or if you live down south were you rarely get below 60. My recommendations are based on experience up north. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 74322544 United States 02/15/2020 02:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Yeah anderson is king. For quality, lifespan and energy savings. And more important for service. If you ever need ANYTHING. they got your back. even if it was your fault. might cost you money. but they'll still do the best they can for you by far. |

If someone gonna break in, they will break the glass, not take out the frame. |
rccola User ID: 73963206 United States 02/15/2020 08:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Metal windows condensate on the inside in cold weather and humid conditions. That leads to rotting window sills. I bought all vinyl for my house and much better electric bill. Never cold or hot to the touch like a metal window. I installed aluminum on the rear of my house 25 years ago... never again. Cold, frost, Ice on the inside for crying out loud! Condensation sucks. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 78068184 02/15/2020 08:21 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have an extensive background in windows. From restoring historic wooden windows with 500 lights to building the vinyl and aluminum. What it comes down to is the quality of the vinyl. The quality of the balances that lift the window up and down. The quality and thickness of the weather stripping used. The glass, and how the window is installed. Look around maybe you have an unknown manufacturer in your area. They are usually cheaper and they have different grades of vinyl weather strip and glass just like all the big names. |

If you have wooden windows and they are properly cared for and linseeded and weather stripped nicley and taken care of they can last 100's of years. It depends on what you have for a house and where it is located. |
