Your Math is wrong. You don't know the number of people quarantined/staying at home (recovered/died). Only people in serious condition are treated in hospitals. About 70-80% are "suspected cases" and/or have only mild symptoms. So its higher then 2% but much lower then 15%...

Math is correct. The point of the post is that you look at numbers after it ran its course, not the currently infected number. This is especially true for something that takes over a week to recover or die from.

It’s impossible to accurately report the numbers of recovered people though, since not all of them are in hospital and being tracked. It will take some time before we know how bad it really is.

Who is calculating the deaths to total cases ratio? Idiots who don't get basic arithmetic? Of course the formula is

total_outcomes / total_deaths,

where total_outcomes = total_recovered + total_deaths,

and

total_cases = total_cases_in_progress + total_outcomes.

Based on the total_cases_in_progress, the above ratio can be used to make a projection.

The fact is ,China shut its whole economy down for this. No country woukd do that for something like a common cold or flu.

Death rate has to be a much higher number than whatever they publish.

I used a different way to come up with the same conclusion as you.

its probably over 200 million infected globally and 70k plus deaths at this point.

By mid march they wont be able to hide the numbers anymore and everything will shutdown anyway.A lot of angry sick people will be looking to lynch the government as well.

Yes the infected count from 2 weeks earlier works too.

If you compare deaths to deaths plus "recovered patients", the death rate is around seventeen percent at the moment.

SARS was around ten percent.
